email campaign, is there a best day to send ?

Mondays are not good due to the masses sending it out last thing on a Friday and I am sure that people also send it to arrive on the last day of the week as that is the least busiest day (not the case in some cases the opposite).

As above especially with the timing most people have got through the spam folder and deleted so at this time are a little warmer to email marketing.

It does however depend on target market, the service/product, the email data and how fresh it is. There are a number of factors that will make your email campaign either successful or not.

I hope these pointers helps and please feel free to PM me details and I will do my best to give you free advice.

Kindest Regards

Dave

I have always considered Tuesday before lunch to be the optimum day for email or direct mail missives. Monday has been considered the worst and Friday varies considerably depending on the message and the client.

If your target audience is large enough, do a controlled trial before putting all your hopes into one basket.

According to some, Monday is probably the best day to send commercial e-mail.Friday is slightly below average, while the Saturday and Sunday rates are significantly below. Saturday is the worst day to send an e-mail in terms of delivery rate.

There is no best day to send commercial emails but the latter part of the week maybe better and Wednesday is the peak day.

But no matter what day it is, the best day for the industry to e-mail may not be the best day for your particular marketing goals. :)

I'll throw our experience in the hat for what its worth....

Generally when we send out at the end of the week, we don't get huge responses. Wondering if people play catch up on weekends or Mondays maybe and just delete everything thats not 100% critical (?)

For us, sending on a Wednesday seems to get us the most clicks and conversions.

(Still learning though and analysing the stats)

I'd heard that tuesday mid-morning was the best time, so we've tried to stick to this. However, for some reason or other, we sent a campaign at 2am on a friday morning. We got the best response ever!! I'm sure it depends on the target audience to some degree. A lot of our customers, chefs, work late hours and do their buying/browsing in the early hours.

I think I remember reading on here that the best time to send is the time when the customer signed up to the service.

So if they bought a product and opted in on a Friday afternoon then the optimum time for that person is a Friday afternoon.

It all depends if they opted in and also the abilities of the mailout software but I thought that was pretty interesting.

I think it may have been Admagic that posted about how to do that.

I remember a couple of threads in the archives where I linked to studies that tracked open rates and clickthrough rates.

If you find those, you'll find the "time of day" post as well.

I always found rainy lunchtimes were good. Check out the 5-day weather forecast and aim for a day with rain forecast between 12 and 2pm. It keeps people at their desks with a sandwich, rather than going out. They often spend longer looking at their emails than during the working day.

Can you look at your website stats? This will show you when people are most receptive to your product/service. E.g. We get loads of hits Tue/Weds/Thurs mostly between 10am-12:30pm. I reckon it's because people start the week with good intentions, get overwhelmed and think "Crikey I really need to chuck some of this admin stuff at someone else" and google "HELP ME!!!!".

If you manage to hit their email inbox when they are feeling particularly in the mood they are more likely to buy.

Good luck!

You will probably notice a post by one of our customers (Funky Chef) and he has hit the nail right on the head. Your sending time should be determined by your target audience. If everyone listened to the advice posted here to send on a Tuesday morning surely sooner or later nobody would bother opening any emails sent on a Tuesday morning. We would always recommend split tesing and constant testing to ensure the best rate of deliverbility. It comes down to knowing your subscribers and nothing beats constant monitoring of your results. If something works, continue to use it !

Hi,

Rightly or wrongly, I have always been told that Tues morning is the best time to send eshots. People are generally either in a foul mood on a Monday and don't want to think about business... or they are completely snowed under with the other work emails they have!!

Fridays tend to be the worst days as the last thing anyone generally wants to think about on a Friday afternoon is someone trying to sell them something...

Personally I have found that Tues, Wed and Thurs are the best days, with the best read rate between 10-2.

However, headline is everything!! If you aren't careful your email can appear "spammy" and then everything is lost.

Hey

Well it seems the OP has got their answer, the best days for most have been tues morn with wed and thurs coming in next.

My results have shown similar findings so I would suggest you try this out first but test it because as has been mentioned what you sell and the audience you target may delete everything that comes in midweek (for whatever reason).

So use what you've learnt as a benchmark and test against it to see if your results are better or worse.

I have really found this thread interesting. Some of my best responses have come from mailing out on a Saturday morning, saying in that email that sometimes they need a little extra help, as they are in the office on a Saturday.

Our weekly events email always goes out on a Sunday evening which works well for us.

It's difficult because we also have to weigh up when people want to receive the information, ie they like to know about the events before the week begins.

This probably underlines the fact that it varies depending on what you are promoting in your email!
