I have an established ecommerce website which is working ok, but I feel that it would benefit from a redesign as it's beginning to look a little dated. I want to stick with my existing shopping cart platform so I'm really just looking for a new responsive layout with improved graphics and company logo etc.. I designed and built my current website entirely myself, but my time and creative skills are limited so I'm now looking for a professional to undertake this work. Could anyone recommend a good designer or advise the best place to find one?

Richard.

It doesn't work like that. To make a website responsive you need the the correct site architecture: headers, menus, content, sidebars and footers need to be properly organised so that the stylesheet can manage the layout on different screen resolutions.

So anyone tendering for the work would need to know the platform and would need to have a reasonable understanding of how the pages are generated in order to build a complete new theme. Graphic design would come later.

If you are using an old package of a shopping cart software, is there not a newer version available. Most good software will get updated either by the original owner, or by someone else. There may also be an active users forum where this work may have already been done. Without knowing the software you will not get a definite answer. A web designer or a programmer will want to know what code is already there before saying they will alter what you have.

The code required to change oscommerce will be totally different to magneto and opencart, so any developer will need to know before giving a quote. If your site is so old, why not upgrade and get the benefits of a new software package. I use oscommerce, which is considered old by many, but the community are pushing the project forward, and there is now a responsive setup using bootstrap. There is also a new version in the very long pipeline. Regardless of what you use, look to see if it has been updated.

I recommend looking at a freelancing service such as Elance to try and find a specialist freelance web designer with experience working on your platform especially as you say it isn't one of the more popular platforms.
Also I would recommend thinking about using a migration service to move your store onto one of the more supported eCommerce platforms. That way you will have a lot more options available to you when you are looking to expand your design or functionality.

The platform is not one of the better known ones, but I'm really only looking for the graphic design and responsive page layout code to use as a template.
    Aww don't be shy.

But you're right, you probably would be able to take someone elses responsive HTML/CSS and integrate it with the platform if you know it well.
