Anyone know of anything that when someone purchases an item it can send them a link (for only them to download) or sends them a zip with the files in it.

They are going to be actually getting products in the post but want this as a little present for certain items :)

Hi have you got a website already? If you do, you would need a developer to add these features. However, if you want to design an e-commerce website with the above feature it comes as a contribution on oscommerce/creloaded. It works quite well. Send me a pm of what additional features is required and please state what stage you are at the moment. I would try and assist you.

Hi,

The Shop Integrator ecommerce service will allow you to sell your MP3 files, or any other electronic content (i.e. any files). Shop Integrator works with any web technologies, a basic web page (HTML), your content management system (CMS), PHP, Java, .NET, Perl CGI etc. You don't need to install anything on your server or your desktop/laptop. This means if you wanted to, you can pay for a very basic domain name and hosting package (or even a free web host) and sell your MP3's from your web pages using the Shop Integrator ecommerce service.

You upload and store your files in your accounts secure controlled file area on our servers. Completed customer order payments automatically trigger an email to the customer directing them to your ecommerceExpress Customer Download Portal website. Using your online administration console you configure the download order settings for:
  • Time period the customer has to download the file(s)
  • Maximum number of downloads per file for a customer order
  • A message to display to your shoppers using the download portal
Your customer will also be able to view other recent orders they have made with you through their customer download portal.

It is very straight forward to start selling your MP3's. Using your online admin console, you create a product, attach your uploaded file(s) to the product, copy and paste the Shop Integrator ecommerceExpress ecommerce plug-ins in to your page to allow the customer to buy the item and checkout, accepting debit/credit card and PayPal payments in to your free PayPal merchant account. Successful customer payment triggers the automated delivery process of your files to your customer, so there is no manual intervention required from you.

Your Shop Integrator service gives you a full shopping basket solution allowing you to quickly add in feature rich ecommerce plug-ins on to your web pages with little web programming skills, if you can copy and paste, you can plug-in ecommerce on to your web pages.

You can take a 30 day no obligation free trial, if you don't wish to proceed once you've started the trial, it automatically ends after 30 days with no further action required from you. We have a low cost, fixed price annual service charge depending on the number of products you are selling (a product may have multiple files attached to it), with a small supplemental charge depending on how much disk space you wish to add to your account.

Please take a look at our web site and get in touch if you have any questions.

The popular term for this kind of ecommerce feature is digital downloads, and you will find that quite a few ecommerce systems support this is one form or another.

The issues you may run into with your particular requirements are:

1. Payment options, if you are accepting cheques for the physical products you are shipping, at what point do you make the digital download available?

2. The download isn't the main product being purchased, it is an extra freebie, and some systems may be geared to where the digital download is the main product.

There is an addon I believe which allows you to do this in OSCommerce
Digital downloads do come as standard in the default install of osCommerce, but the functionality does need some development work and customising in order to get it working in a practical way, as we found when creating our custom version of osCommerce for the online shop part of our sitebuilder websites.
