E mail Marketing

I have been informed that you can no longer purchase opt in emails addresses and start an email campaign. Apparently, all email addresses have to be captured on your own company web site so they are opted in to your company personally. I can see this taking forever. Could the experts on here let me know if this is the case?
Thanks

It won't take forever if you're proving information that your customers want to read.

Remember quality not quantity. The idea of an opt-in is exactly that, they opt-in to receive emails from you, which should mean they're potential customers, rather than just a list of email addresses you've purchased who will ignore you messages.

You can still buy email lists, but you shouldn't. They're classed as unsolicited and therefore spam. You'll quickly find your domain blacklisted by many email providers and marketing campaign sites like MailChimp and you business will suffer for it.

You can't buy customers off the street and buying an email lists is the same. You have to convert customers naturally if you want them to buy from you or use your service.

It's slower and takes more effort but the quality of customer will be higher.

use a traffic source e.g. Facebook ads to a blog post > lead magnet capture emails then you know these people are interested in what you have to offer. utilise retargeting to get the ones that didn't take your lead magnet use custom audiences to bring them back cheaply

Building an email list doesn't have to take long as long as what you're offering is what they want. This takes research defining exactly who your target market are and establishing what you could offer them for free and is still linked to your business.

I've also found one of the best ways of doing it quickly is through Facebook ads either to a blog post or specifically created landing page, I'm actually working on one today :)

Make sure your Facebook ad is very well targeted though as those cost per clicks can climb!

Hi Marcus, that sounds like a good method. We haven't used Facebook marketing before? how cost effective is it when compared to Google Adwords? we are building our blog up and have a newsletter opt in, however we don't really have a plan to utilise this. Your method sounds interesting.
If you're in retail and its B2C Facebook is a million times better. It's so much cheaper, you get really quick accurate feedback and the level of targeting is amazing. You can even create custom audiences from people who've visited your website and audiences that are similar to people who have visited your site

It sounds unlikely. Just think of what that would mean. (Like how could you email someone - anyone - who hasn't opted in?)

However, the question is, who do you want to email and why?

Are you sure people will welcome your email? If not, then by buying a list and then emailing them, you'll just damage your brand. if your concern is it "taking forever" then yes, building an organic email list takes time. But at least you'll have engaged and opted-in people. For a short-term hit then as others say, try social media, and then get people's email addresses that way.

Email marketing should be done through an opt-in list. As another member here said, quality vs quantity. There is the notion that any list you buy from a mail company, SHOULD in theory, already have been vetted as opt-in for third party promotions (otherwise they shouldn't be selling it). But there are a lot of cowboys out there, and you could simply find your self being marked as spam.
