Drupal for Classified Ads

Hi

I'm considering setting up a classified ads system for a niche market project.

Its been a while since I looked at Drupal, but I see there is a classified ads module available.

Just wondering whether anyone had any experience with this? I know there are various classified ad PHP scripts (and I can do basic PHP coding), but the beauty with Drupal are the powerful modules available for additional community related functions that could be tied in at a later date.

Is Drupal overkill for something like this?

PS: I'm not interested in Wordpress or Joomla for this.

Hi Al,

Doesn't seem like over kill to me, you never know if you'll want to grow your niche or provide more or different services or do something entirely different.

Any of the CMS systems you mentioned will allow you to adapt them this way as and when you see fit.

I've not used Drupal recently though, but it still has a huge community following and developing it.

Drupal is overkill for something like this. I'd only use drupal for a powerful website with alot of pages and only use Joomla for a project similar to this

Al,

I am sure Drupal will be fine, but why exclude Wordpress and, in particular, Joomla - you do know it is a child of Drupal, has several directory components and one of the widest range of additional plugins on any system!

I have used this classified ad module for drupal.

It works fine, basic out of the box but with Drupal you can add whatever fields to it you need.

It auto expires ads as well which can be handy.

If it works and you are comfortable using it then it's not overkill, I don't understand the suggestions to use a different CMS.

All the php scripts i've seen for classifieds are very dated, I keep saying I will produce an open source 'web 2.0' classifieds app but unfortunately/fortunately don't have the time right now.
