Driving traffic

'easy' ways

There are NO easy ways to 'drive' traffic. The best you can hope for is if the odd site links to you, and hope the site has a ton of links sending lots of traffic.

Your very question of How do I drive traffic easily will provoke hoards of useless info about link exchanging, but you'll never get there, as you dont own what their after.

Obviously this answer is general, as I dont know what type of website you own, nor its industry. But, I'll take a punt and assume you have few options but to buy weblinks on related sites or attempt to ride the SERP wave and struggle.

You need either time or serious money. Linking is about a fair traffic exchange, but such deals are rarely fair, and doubtful you'll get on such high traffic sites. You pay or your site dies over time, leaving you with nothing :)

Basically:

1. you can hope for free one-way links (rare)

2. seek a ton of useless link swaps (gives limited presense, but basically useless)

3. hope some authority site goes mad and gives you a great freebie (fat chance)

4. spend insane time seeking good free one-ways (possible, but limited)

5. buy advertising (Easiest option, huge choice, fast results)

6. dump cash into PPC (results vary considerably - high cost)

I agree with the others about there being no 'easy' ways to generate traffic. When searching online for this information you will come across a lot of businesses that say they can build links for you, but these should be avoided.

When looking for links you should take into consideration the quality of that link rather than the number of links you may get.

Link building is a difficult and time consuming process but isnt everything within business that is worthwhile?

My advice is to find other sites that are relevant to your site but not competitors and approach for links by a personal email.

Another approach can be joining blogs where your target audience will be participating and comment. Make sure your comments are relevant to the subject though as they can be marked as spam. When commenting on blogs they ask for your url so this is a direct link.

There is also social media which is very effective but possibly the most time consuming to build a following. What you have to take into consideration is the amount of traffic that sites such as facebook and twitter attract. If you are able to put an hour aside per day then this is definitely worth looking into

I hope this has helped

Vast majority of linking is worthless bcos of where you'll likely end up. If you think you'll get your links on homepages, forget it - if you think you'll get on high traffic sites, forget that too. It CAN take over 12 months to find that amazing free link, which probably wont be that amazing.....

Will people flock to a links page or website to find you or search the page. What value does the site/page have... If the answer is none, then its probably a waste of time having a link on it.

just common sense.

Hi Dan,

There are a number of things you can do to drive traffic that are both easy and free or cost effective if you don't want to do it yourself.

Firstly you need to sort out your 'on page' SEO. Doing this one thing can get you shooting up the rankings in Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.

Then due to the nature of your business you have so many other methods of driving traffic. Examples include -

Email marketing
Article Marketing
Video Marketing
Press Releases
Podcasts

All these are free (other than your time) if you do them yourself. Having taken a look at your competition I see no reason why with a few tweaks to your content and some or all of the others you should dominate the rankings with link building or paid advertising.

Feel free to contact me if you are interested in discussing this further.

I think more directory submission is beneficial to increase the traffic.

Just the specialty ones, niche..... IF you go after the General dirs, you need to check them out, as with ALL websites, some are blinding, but many are trash.

Be prepared to do much wading to find the best. A good rule is to look and see if a dir is built to promote you! If not, chances are its a directory biz for the owner and nothing more. Eg: I'd avoid the ones with 5000 sites pending/yet to be reviewed

What does it offer above the norm?
Does it have multiple advertiser options?
How established is it
Is it part of something else eg: a group of websites
Dont judge it by links alone - it can still be a high converting front runner
Check any media attention (less than 1% will have this) - those that are, chances are they'll expand at some point or get vast/key traffic/good traffic delivery....
Check the categories, this will tell you how badly the businesses want to be listed.!!!!!

Does anyone know of any 'easy' ways to drive general traffic to a website?
It's the wrong question. I's suggest you don't want more traffic you want more business (they are mutually exclusive as more traffic does not equal more sales.)

No point in getting loads of visitors if they don't take advantage of your services. Far better to focus on attracting potential clients.

Suppose you only need one sale per day to break even. In theory you only need one visitor per day if you can convince them to convert.

It follows then that the first thing you need to concentrate on is making sure the site converts then worry about getting traffic. And the easiest way to get more traffic is advertise.
