This is an odd thread but its an issue i have had for many years and trying to rectify.

I have decided i should not work 6 days a week, My businesses are at the point they do not need me in all day every day.

I have have been trying to take a day off every week.

The problem is i do not know what to do with myself!

I find myself bored or wonder what is happening within my businesses and not able to find something to fill my time and give all my attention.

Sure i can watch TV but feel that's a waste of the day, only so many places you can visit or eat out at and does not fill the entire day.

In my mid-forties i do not have any hobbies as such as strived to make my businesses work (which they do).

What do you do on a day off to unwind?

I have a 2 year old, so I normally play peek a boo, shout at her to stop drawing on the walls, watch kids play with toys on youtube (that is a real thing) and wish I had gone in to work.

I still go to the gym 2-3 times a week.
I used to play golf - badly.
Sometimes I just sit in the living room in silence and realise how good silence actually is.
If you are really struggling, go and buy football manager. Before you know it you have taken Altrincham FC to the Champions League final, won the premiership and are 4 years older.

Root 66 Woodshop

I do woodworking, I go into my garage and knock out things to sell such as jewellery boxes, wooden snowmen, reindeer, butchers blocks, chopping boards... then once a month I take them to a makers market and make a bit of cash there.

had a few commission pieces, which I was chuffed with... other than that, I chill out with my metal detector or I watch box sets after 8.00pm (only so the neighbours can't complain about me being in the garage all day and night making stuff :D)

I usually take one day a week off & I love to go mountain biking.

It doesn't just give me a great workout, I find that my stress levels reduce substantially, I feel more positive after a good cycle, I feel I have more energy and very importantly for me - I sleep much better! Give it a go yourself.

This is a wind-up, surely? Children, team sport, demented parents, exercise, watersports, Guiding, festivals, sex, pub, house rebuild , domestic chores, spousal conflict, car repair, motorcycle rebuild, social media trolling, intellectual self-improvement, professional associations, committees, good works, holidays, ...

I don't even have time to write it all down. Your problem is you don't have any problems. Single? Dating. Married without children? Go and have an affair. Healthy? Get sick. Have an affair with your doctor.

Seriously, one thing : exercise.

I agree with @MY OFFICE IN CHINA that you’re in a bit of a rut, but I’ve been there and it’ll probably take you a while before you find something that you truly enjoy.

I have a 6 month old so he largely occupies most of my free time now but prior to that I enjoyed walking, cycling and unpacking all my gaming consoles so I now have an epic retro gaming.

All enjoyable for me - although playing games from my youth makes me think just how easy you have it at the time and don’t realise it.
