If you're in the app/tech sector, I think it makes sense in order to gain a shorter (and more universal) top level domain. On the other hand, I'm not sure how conscious the general public is of these slightly newer TLDs. Certainly tech-savvier people will be more used to seeing .app, .ie and whatever else, so maybe consider what your market is.

We own safepoint.app but, honestly, we rarely use it and instead go for safepointapp.com because people recognise .coms. ?‍♂️

You can create a brand using any domain name ending

However you will lose a portion of your traffic to people who type in the .com ending

Don't forget the security risk from people sending emails to the wrong address

This is a good point. Also it often depends whether that dotcom url is active or just parked (as so many, annoyingly, are)
