(Yes, the spelling mistakes in the title ARE on purpose!)
On social media I watch most videos (including business promotional ones on Linkedin) on mute and read the captions and three things have struck me...
1/ People are using A.I. to caption the video, that's okay... until it isn't. We have a wide range of accents here in the U.K. and I've seen A.I. really struggle to deal with some of the stronger ones. Captions have gone from readable to unintelligible. But the thing that strikes me more is obviously the person doing the video didn't bother to check the captions before publishing the video.
2/ I've been watching a video, reading the captions and assumed the person was based in America because of the different spelling compared to the U.K.: "color" "honor" "t.v. program". It's only when I've listened to the video and heard the person's accent that I realise they are British (or at least trading in the U.K.) So, make sure that you get the spellings correct for the country you want to do business, or you may lose potential customers who assume you're based elsewhere.
3/ Another thing seems to be have the Introduction captioned, then up flashes "Sound On" or similar when the captions then stop. So, I have no idea what is being said in the rest of the video.
My job means I have to be able to hear perfectly, but how do you imagine someone who has a hearing impairment is going to react when they cannot follow your video because the captions don't work?
