Do Tsohost honour old Vidahost packages?

I've a couple of old Vidahost hosting packages which were moved to Tsohost some time ago.

One is up for renewal now, the invoice has been generated and I'm about to pay it.

What I notice though is that it is ridiculously cheap compared to current Tsohost packages

There's no real description of what comes with the package. it's just called Vidahost Medium Plan and has 15 sites on it

My concern is that if I pay the invoice, they will then see how little I'm paying and downgrade the package.

Anyone have any experience with this and know if they honour the old vidahost packages?

    Thanks

It's more really that I have no idea what I'm actually paying for.
I assume I'll still be able to host 15 sites, but it doesn't mention any other limits anywhere

Looking on Wayback machine it used to have 10GB of diskspace, 50GB monthly bandwidth, 50 databases but none of this is mentioned in my control panel.

my concern is if I do need any support, they will then try to get me to upgrade

Hi, I also have a Vidahost Medium Package. Plus I have a more ancient Helm Reseller account (from the CsNewMedia days) for which TsoHost have just issued a 30 day discontinuation notice!

I have just had a lengthy support chat, where I discussed my options. As per the OP I am also NOT inclined to "upgrade" my Medium account to their current offering as it will require either halving my domains quota, or paying 3 times as much per month.

The support agent informed me that, whilst the Vidahost Medium Plan is considered 'legacy', his information is that they have no intention of discontinuing support for it. It uses the same cloud hosting platform as their current plans and would not need any migration if "upgrading".

Given that the Vidahost Medium plan still represents really good VFM, I will have to migrate my ancient Helm domains to my other 'legacy' plan - and hope they don't change their mind about it any time soon. And I will certainly NOT be changing plan for now as I need the generous domain allowance.

However, given the recent shock of getting 30 days notice of discontinuation of a heavily used reseller account (they have offered to assist with website migrations, but they do not offer any assist for mailboxes), I will now be looking for alternative hosting which can offer similar value to the Vidahost Medium package. So, if they spring this on me again then I will be ready to migrate away.

I miss Carl Shepherdson (the CS of CsNewMedia).

Sorry, I got carried away with my tale of woe.

Advice to OP is that you will continue to enjoy the benefit of your legacy Vidahost Medium plan. You don't need to worry about them noticing that you are getting a good deal and stealing it back from you.

However, given my recent poor experience of the short notice they give when they do choose to discontinue a product - I recommend that the OP prepares a doomsday plan now...

Find a new host. Maybe even buy their cheapest package just so you can prove their service. And also get a plan for any hosted mailboxes you may have, as they seem to get scant consideration. I will be paying for imapsync.

Enjoy the good times while you can, but be prepared for the worst.

    Thanks @GURUCLOUD

Yes, both the source and destination mail servers are IMAP.

imapsync looks like a good command-line tool, and there is a free-to-use web-hosted instance of it too (but I can't post the link). If you are familiar with a good/better alternative then please do provide link.

I know it's not hard to do, but I was still quite shocked that they won't get involved when migrating mailboxes from their discontinued legacy services to their current platform. If I've got to do that legwork myself, and given that they've just pulled the rug from beneath me, then why would I even stay with them?

Having been fairly positive about my experience with TSO since they ended up with my old Compila websites I think that I have now changed my mind.

One of the servers crashed last night at about 20:35 and as they were a few days off migrating to a new server they did it there and then and 19 hours later my site is still offline.

How long does it take to migrate to a new server anyway?

TSO Host update 16 hours ago:-

The server experienced issues earlier tonight and crashed, after which we were unable to bring it back online. Currently performing a migration to one of our newest machines from where the accounts will go live, as it was scheduled for migration later this week. We'll configure the DNS to forward any requests so no immediate updates will be necessary at this point.
We'll post the progress as it goes.

imapsync is the best there is for this purpose. Its command line but there are a few people who have built web front ends around it. Do you have many mailboxes to move?

@UKBSD I highly doubt they'll notice, there are probably thousands of different active packages in the billing system these days. Enjoy while you can! When I created the Vidahost packages back in the day, websites were mostly static pages or very simple blogs so resources weren't an issue.

These days of course everyone's running a WordPress/CMS/shop install with 100 outdated plugins, 20Gb of photos, getting blasted by bots, and so on!

The owners probably got a good payday by selling to GoDaddy then!
HEG (who bought Paragon, which owned Vidahost, which I started with Seb) certainly did and for full disclosure, I got a little bit too. It wasn't exactly part of my grand plan to see my old company rebranded to Godaddy on the day of the announcement though, I thought HEG would just swap between private equity owners and we'd continue doing our thing uninterrupted. Alas.

Don't know if I can post the link but the online tool is here:

    https://i005.lamiral.info/X/

There also definitely was a frontend (and queue, logging system etc) for it at Paragon because I wrote it with Darren. Wonder where it went. More about 'scope of support' probably....

Did you guys build a tool to move people from Gridhost....? :)
