Do I need SEO and coding to be a digital marketer

Hi, I'm an accountant right now, but I want to be a digital marketer. Can anyone tell me the most important skills to become a digital marketer.
As a digital marketer do I need to have SEO Skills? If so does that mean I need to be able to coding and programming languages to do on page SEO and Tech SEO? In job requirements
want SEO skills, but if I don't understand programming languages?
Do you need skills to work with Photoshop and similar programs + creative design skills. For example, to create beautiful banners or beautiful videos?

Most digital marketers have those types of skills, but then most digital marketers are of no use to anyone. Much better, in my opinion, to have a decent understanding of the underlying strategies that dictate how you go about marketing a business, and then buy in all the technical skills.

Marketing strategies, planning, etc. they will be easier for me because I understand finance, accounting, management accounting and so on.
The problem for me is SEO and programming languages. I don't understand programming and this subject is difficult for me and I probably won't be able to learn proram languages. So I will not understand on page seo and Tech seo, but all employers want SEO skills. So I asked if I needed SEO skills and programming to be a Digital marketer

I can promise you, as an accountant you almost certainly don't understand strategic marketing. Don't make the mistake of thinking the 2 disciplines are similar, they aren't.

You can find people who can write code for peanuts. The money is in understanding strategy.

We also learned the basics of marketing at university and I know it's different from accounting.
I don't understand marketing strategy and planning, but I want to say that it will be easier for me because I have learned things related to business. But programming languages are very difficult for me. That's why SEO worries me, and all employers require it.

SEO is just another marketing tool. You will have to learn new techniques and spend months (or even) years learning all the nuances and then keep learning as trends change but dig down and it's just marketing.

The only way to build up the skills is to get yourself a website, do your research and then practice what you have learned.

You should be ready to apply for jobs in about 2023.

If you're going to go into the world of digital marketing then I'd suggest you choose an area and become an expert in that particular area. Don't try to wear too many hats or get involved in too many projects. It will all end in tears.

There are many digital marketers who 'balls things up' because they try to pretend they know about everything and they don't. Almost every marketing agency covers the spectrum of marketing activities and that often ends in tears too.

I niched down my offering somewhat to avoid social media. I knew social media was a time-sucker and it wasn't really my bag. It was detrimental to my time, my ability to deliver and didn't fit the clients I wanted to target.

Believe me. You will make more money from a simple service offering that is defined for a specific client base. Be known as the expert in what you do.

Final point. Even once you've chosen your niche, it doesn't mean you need to do everything yourself. SEO is a big area and you can't be great at everything.

I provide SEO strategy and run campaigns for clients. Whilst I can write pretty good content, I choose to outsource it to people who are much better at writing than I will ever be. That way, I can deliver better results because I've focused more on refining the strategy side and I also spend more time on building my network and growing my sales.

    Hope that helps.

I am a digital marketer and I believe SEO is dead, you can gain far more exposure from pay per click and less risk so I would start with learning PPC. Google offer free ads certification and you can take the courses in your own time. Learning photoshop or gimp will be very usefull

But on another thread you asked if SEO could help your own site. Which is it?
How would learning Photoshop or Gimp help?

The question is what specifically you want to do in digital marketing?

You can definitely be successful without knowing how to code, but it can only help. Being able to write or understand basic scripts can simplify go a long way in running ads, SEO, and any others in the digital marketing industry.

I must be doing something wrong then as Google still provides me with lots of leads without using PPC. Not sure how learning to use Gimp helps.

    Hi,

Yeah you can use other things to have some experience level but initially learn SEO onsite and offsite techniques you should know all major SEO factors.

    Can I code? YES
Do I code? NO I employ people to do my coding as it's a waste of my value.

Digital marketing is a super wide definition and as @WebshopMechanic stated one needs to specialise.

I hate PPC although I'm good at it I don't offer it as a service as I don't enjoy it. same with 'some' social media marketing (although I use Social as part of the overall structure and system).
