Good Morning all

Does any one of good discussion forums (similar to this one), for the broad areas of People Management and Leadership.

Whilst I aspire to develop my own business - and learning a lot from the discussions here, I am wondering if there somewhere or someone I can learn more for my career side ?

Today I lead a team of 3 direct reports, and total team size of 8 in Supply Chain Order Management. I feel if I become a better leader in work, this will eventually help me become better when I focus more on my own business,

Shout at your staff. Berate them constantly. Undermine their confidence. Belittle their achievements. Show no mercy.

What else do you need to know?

I think you should treat them with respect and listen to their needs. And also one of those trap doors in your office with a piranha tank below that they have in the James Bond films is a good idea for those who do not do exactly what you say.

But seriously, I think a certain distance from you staff is always needed. Also, be a role model. That might be just being super good at what you do, such as a very good programmer in a software company or a very good architect in a firm of architects. Or it might be say having a flashy expensive car if the people you employ aspire to that is their sort of thing. I am not kidding, in many industries employees want to be associated with people who have outward signs of wealth

Dwight D. Eisenhower put it "Leadership is getting people to do what you want them to, because they want to do it!"

In other words, you have to align their goals with the goals of the company. You must find out what they aspire to and try to make those aspirations possible within the company, or at least help them along that path as part of their work.

Just as Henry Ford said that to succeed in business you must find out what the customer wants and then give it to them - so the same applies to staff. Find out what it is that they want to do and then let them get on with it.

If what it is that they want to do is the same as what you want them to do, all will be sweetness and light!
