You are better off finding specialists for each specific area of digital marketing after formulating a strategic marketing plan.

I would make a plan of what you think will work for your business... what are the competition doing! Are they using google ads, Facebook ads etc...

Then as @AllUpHere says I would employ companies for each service that you think you would like to try

I would search google and find local experts that you can sit down with and they can show you exactly what you can expect to achieve and what it will cost or what results you can expect with your budget!

By going direct to the companies you will save a lot of money, in comparison to using a Marketing consultant. Consultants will charge a lot and normally just work as the middle man... You will get a lot more for your money if you go direct!

I disagree with just about every word in your post.

A good marketing consultant won't simply be acting as a middle man.

Google really isn't the best place to find a specialist.

Don't look at what your competitors are doing and try to do similar.

A strategic marketing plan isn't based on what you 'think you'd like to try', it should be based on sound research.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Yes I agree with you sound research is very important....

I didn't say to search what competition are doing and do similar... I said to see what they are doing!

But if you look at the biggest companies in your field... see what they are doing... they will have multiple teams of marketing specialist analysing the market and competition daily and seeing what works etc.. so basing it on that is not a bad starting point....

Of course at this stage you wouldn't want to throw thousands at doing everything that your competition are doing... so then approach local experts and compare your options and what you can or cant afford and what will work best!!

With regards to searching google not being a good option, I have to disagree.... If i'm paying a company to do my SEO... their main goal is to make me rank highly in search engines... so any company worth their weight in gold will be at the top of the list! If they cant get their own website there, why would I trust them with mine...

With regards to employing a marketing consultant... yes i agree there can be big benefits if you have the budget!

In short you will be paying more for the services because as marketing consultants we take a cut of everything!

However with some basic research you can find out what is working for other companies and what works for your product etc....

Then approach an seo company, a Pay per click company.... and any other companies....

They will do the research for you... they will analyse the market and make predictions etc.

Then once you know the costs, you can make decisions on what is viable for your business.

This is just my opinion be it right or wrong..... I think this would be the most cost effective way to start!!

Also you maintain control of the companies doing your seo and marketing etc.

Whoever you do find, one hopes the first thing they will say you need to fix is your website.

If you are targeting the hip and trendy then it might work. But for anyone else it's a bit of a disaster.

If they cant get their own website there, why would I trust them with mine...

The best SEO people don't need to worry about ranking their own websites. The ones that crow about ranking #1 in Little Fartington have got their priorities all wrong.

In any case, until Titus have got a marketing strategy in place you won't even know if SEO is required. They may have a marketing plan that doesn't involve the search enhines.
