I have bought Dell for many years from rack mounted servers, laptops to bargain basement dimensions and never had a problem with their support. Last year a new desktop, after week I decided it was flakey, I reported it they collected fixed and returned with no problems.

What was it about the post that started getting everyone suspicious?
I've never had a Dell computer or dealt with them before so can't comment on their customer service.

He was being over the top nice about them and then went into a heavy defence when Alpha asked more.

And it was his first post here and was a direct recommendation for Dell

Quite funny really.

All our computers are Dell and as far as I am concerned they are spot on with everything. We have the next 'business day support' and on the only occasion that we have had trouble they were knocking on the door at 09:15 the next morning.

Interesting to hear negative feedback though, I wasn't aware that they were seen in such a poor light.

However, it is a real eye opener to see someone from Dell working in this manner, but he is surely just a one off trying to increase his commission.

Has anyone reported it to Dell?

Has it changed your opinion of Dell

To be honest it has merely reinforced my opinion of Dell.
In my one and only dealing with them they blatantly lied to me (The full scenario was posted on here a while ago).
Now we have on here a 'representative' of Dell who was clearly trying to drumup business by deception which was all totally unneccessary.

As Rob says you don't mind the odd maverick who can think up a new or novel way of drumming up business but there is still the inherent requirement of most of us in business that the people we deal with have integrity and can be trusted. (People are allowed to make genuine mistakes!)

If the guy had simply come clean when asked and said 'yes i'm a Dell rep but I promise you a good deal and I will look after you' then I would have no problem with that and should I have any other requirements would probably have tried him out.

But instead he decided to invent an even more incredulous story which made himself (and the company he represents) look even more untrustworthy and is certainly a company that I would not deal with on principle, obviously others will make their own decisions.

The underlying message that seemed to come out of it all is 'well small business owners are a bit simple and are obviously more easily led in the purchasing decision than their colleagues in plc's, which is very arrogant.

I decided in the end that if Dell decided to get shirty as this is a "moderated" forum it could be deemed that they requested the post to be removed and if I didn't legally they would have the upper hand.

Plus, he had wiped all his posts anyway so the true beauty of the thread was gone ;)

It's a shame when you have to bow down to corporate giants in this way, I would of loved to of seen the post.

Dell I think make good computers but as a corporate giant they are just scum. Anyone remember the fiasco with Paul Dell who sold/fixed computers in spain and they tried to force him to hand over his domain name etc?

I think that is called 'business'

McDonald's are just as strict at defending their brand image, and why not?

You can't allow someone to trade in computers under the Dell name if it is trademarked somewhere else. Just being called Mr. Dell is not a defence.

If I was you I would delete your posting about Dell being 'scum' because they may well be watching this forum and they could take legal action against you for saying that.

Having Dell's Legal team knocking on your door might not alter your opinion of them, but it might make you learn to think before you write.

What happened to freedom of speach?

Point taken about the brand but if Paul Dell set a business up first and buys the domain name then surely he has the right to keep it!

Where will it end with Dell asking him to change his name becasue he has the same surname as their brand?

Greedy capatilists thats all! Let them send their solicitors.

Are you happy with bully boy tactics then?

Just because its the way of the world it doesn’t mean you have to accept it, I know I’m not going to change the world but still the people that inspire me have.

Of course what doesn't help is the likes of nominet taking the side of the giants when clearly (in the case of Paul dell) the individual had done nothing wrong and had every right to keep his long standing domain name.

I think the guy from easy Jet also made an announcement that any domain name beginning with 'easy' was rightfully his!

Hello and greetings to all greedy capatilists tuning in tonight, hope you sleep well
