Data Protection Act - Verbally taking about information is this a breach?

Hello All,

I have came across a company that has been disclosing information about individuals verbally to others who are outside their organisation.

Would this be breaching the Data Protection Act?

Sorry about the title - TALKING not taking !

Are we saying that having a chat is subject to the D.P.A.??

Seriously?

Think about that for a minute...

Your bank manager writes down your account number, sort code and password, he gives it to his mate. He gets arrested and fined.

Same details but he says it to his mate down the pub. He gets off scott free.

You would be happy with that?

An insurer I spoke to the other day said he couldn't tell me the amount of the premium I owed them (even though I also had it written in front of me on a letter from them) until I could prove beyond all doubt who I was.

It's disclosure; verbal or otherwise.

Thread solved.
