Hi,

Just starting an online business and looking for a bit of advice.

I've got my storefront/cart up (using bigcommerce) so am now looking for a payment processor.

My question is around when they ask for business name. If you are a sole trader, are they looking for my name or the "trading as" name?

Thanks.

I think you should definately shop around and find the best payment processor - just do a quick google search, it shouldn't take too long and if you can save yourself money and get the best processor its worth a quick search/few phonecalls or quotes. Can you tell google is my best friend? Lol!

Good Luck :)

If you are starting off, i would recommend paypal.
Its cheap and easy.

Once you are getting a decent amount of traffic, it may then be worth getting a merchant account and payment processor. We have a payment processor and merchant account - it costs us £20 a quarter before we even start. If your getting 1 order a month using it then its costing not far of £7 per order. However in saying that, about 60% of our orders are done using that over paypal. But we havnt noticed a hige increase in orders when we started using it.

To us, its like people will use paypal but prefer to use a card. Its just another option and we chose to use it but i wouldnt bother until your getting a good 1000 hits a month.

Erm guys, Going though the paypal route do we have to add each product on paypal (o.0) at a time?

It depends on your shopping cart solution.. most carts will send your users basket to paypal and process at checkout.

And to the question above.. Paypal will accept cards if your clients do not have paypal accounts.

Paypal is a great place to start but the transaction costs are high.

If you are new then online payments are perhaps best ...we offer a service called ogone (e/commerce).
Costs are £19.99 pcm
No joining fee
Less than 300 transactions a month would incur no fee`s on sales ,anythink over 300 would only be £0.15 per transaction ...saving you alot in comparrison to paypal.
Feel free to PM if you reuire more info

Thanks

Hi twalsh,

I would love to assist you. We offer some of the lowest rates in the UK with no setup fee and up to 300 transactions for just £10.00 per month (over 300 = 10p per transaction) and no charge for declined transactions. We can also assist you with getting the merchant account set up as we have direct relationships with the merchant services department of Barclays, HSBC and Streamline.

We have integration or modules with most shopping carts so I am sure this is something we could look at for you.

Click the link in my signature to visit our website and find out more or drop me a PM if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Simon
