Credit Card Processing

Hi Can anyone from experience advise me. I have a number of shows coming up and people want to pay by credit card which is fine as I have been using PayPal by taking their details then processing the order through my shop same day but its very time consuming I want to be able to process the payment there and then on my netbook. I am looking into PayPal VT I dont want the cost of a PDQ machine as my fairs are not regular so the cost does not justify it.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam,
I think you should already be using Paypal VT for what you are doing. It sounds from your post that you are using Paypal and entering the customers card details as if they themselves were ordering online when they are not.
I may have misunderstood what you meant though.

dependant on the volumes, if one or two transaction, a VT is ok. If you have a lot, use a terminal. Customers hate queuing and if delayed by a slow CC process, even more so!

and make sure you research pci-dss thorougly. there are very strict guidelines nowadays about handling peoples credit cards.

Agreed! You are on very dangerous ground here. There are certain times where it is acceptable to key in card details manually but it sounds as though you are entering the details in as though you were the customer themselves, which is actually illegal. Your IP will have been recorded each time you have entered the details and it would only take one customer to dispute a payment and if investigated your IP would be associated with a whole raft of other peoples CC payments.

There is also the matter of Data Protection. You should put a date protection policy in place in line with government guidelines that make it clear how you handle customer information during and after sales are processed just to cover yourself.

You can also use a Realex Payments Virtual Terminal, this is hosted on our server and totally PCI DSS compliant. all you need is an internet connection and we can point funds to your Merchant Bank account. The cost is £29 a month with 350 transactions included regardless of value. If you only want it for a limited time we can come to an agreement for that. PM for more details

I agree with that:

orders are processed with the customer on the stand via my online shop. this is what takes the time particularly if the mobile broadband is slow.

However, an update I am hopping today I applied for a PayPal VT and was instantly declined I can not get a reason from any one I have to send an email. I have had my paypal account for 8 years in the last year my shop transactions go through I have a good credit profile both business and personally.

so back to the drawing board. 3 weeks for a barclaycard pdq which is when all my fairs are finished!!!
