Creative help. Help pick me a company name!

Hi all
Hoping I can steal some creative ideas from you!
Been making stock for the last year, ready to sell in various places, but I'm stumped on the last simple(ish) task of thinking up a name for my small company.

To give you an idea, items im selling are 'artisan' type products all handmade. Driftwood lamps, mirrors. Hands stamped jewellery, recycled glass/ plastic bottles into lamps, ashtrays, many other household items. Large / small reclaimed hardwood & 'live' wood edge (bark) tables, stools. Some resin wall art too. Childrens miniature 'fairy huts'. Wooden place mats, candle holders.

Really beautiful items that I'm very proud of. The aim is to upcycle things that would normally be chucked.

Things I think may help in the company name is where I'm based, Bristol is a popular 'quirky' city, my workshop is on a very old boat in the city harbour where I live. This could somehow help too as everyone seems to love boats, and boaters.

So words im currently thinking are
Bristol
BS1
Eco
Harbour
Woods

I was thinking Bristol woods? Or just simply BS1? (Bristol city centre postcode) What a shame Lush bagged that name as it'd be perfect
Any ideas or new suggestions would be appreciated!!!

OP your name doesn't need to reflect what you do. Lots of brands don't - Innocent, GAP, Nike, Moonpig. You can use a strapline to do that.

It's about having a strong, clear brand that helps you stand out from the crowd. Concentrate on developing your brand first.

Definitely, I agree with you. But in this case, I just tried to be helpful and use those words that @Brizol was thinking about.

You've got the point. Very popular brands took just some random words (or at least it seems so) and what they do next is work on building associations with their brand name.

Hi Brizol, we often use an online Thesaurus when brain storming company names. Type in a word that describes your service and then see if any of the other similar words give inspiration. At the very least it will offer words that you hadn't initially considered to describe your business! You can also pair these words up with another word, such as the location you've mentioned.

Might be worth considering something that is indicative of your products so that you come up in online searches? It's all very well having a creative name but if your domain says what you do, you will get more people visiting your website.

You are right, choosing a name is difficult, I chucked around a few names for my company and was going to call it "Pagan Go" as pay and go. I thought it was weak and then a friend came up with Witchwood, and I liked it, I liked the play on words which / witch and the fact all my items are made out of wood. When you come to naming your company its always bests to get feedback on what other people think of your name. You mentioned BS1, now that to me has issues, first thing I think of is B.S. (need i say more) and the next thing is a lot of Pubs like to use post codes, so just hearing it people could think you were a pub. now i know you arent saying you are going to use that name, but just wanted to give you a POV on it. But as for Boaty Mcboat Face! thats just epic and you cant go wrong but at the end of the day you have to like it and whatever you choose google it first, just to see what comes up.

James that is a good name for yourself, sometimes it takes another perspective, hence why im on here really.

Jen I was warming to Bristol Woods but as someone else pointed out, only 70% are wooden items. It would be difficult to find a few words that represent wood, plastic, glass and jewellery. I was thinking maybe 'eco' somewhere, as most items are recycled.

I quite like Pickle..? Bristol pickle?

I'm going to thesaurus some words now...

Or keep it really simple: Your Name Crafts

That way you aren't tied down to a particular material, genre or location.
