Hi everyone hope you all had a fantastic Xmas and new year.
I have a quick question about hosting a website, I would like to create a website but the only way of hosting one I know of through a 3rd party such as godaddy and that is the only company I know. I like the idea have my own domain and email
But if there any other companies out there that are better than godaddy or are they the best option? I'm also not sure about hosting my own website by myself Ive heard it would be difficult?

Thanks
Shaun

Hi Shaun,

The first question is: what sort of website do you want to create? Is it a hobby site, something for your family, a business website, ecommerce, entertainment, a source of information, a local service and so on.

There are thousands of hosts and hundreds of tools and applications you can use to build a website. But to give a useful answer to your question we need to know a little more about what you want to achieve.

Hi Shaun

Happy new year to you

There is a huge selection of companies out there that are better than GoDaddy!

It's often worth looking past the main well-known companies as the support is often generic and lacking in quality.

There's quite of few of us on UKBF who provide specialist hosting services for small businesses with one to support by phone or email.

If you have a look back through past threads, you should see plenty of recommendations.

Many thanks

Mark

Hello, My idea is for a business website,
I would be selling certain things such as training plans for individuals who have specific go's they would like to meet.
Offering macro and cardio coaching, a transformation package, nutritional advice meal plans etc.

Thank you for your replies

If that is the case you need a host in the UK and someone to build the site. Budget around £1000 to get something that will convert and then budget another £10K for marketing. That shpuld get you through the first year. You might start making money on years 3-4.

There are loads of people already doing this sort of thing and all spending a ton of money on marketing. It ain't cheap.

Shaun, I think for a small business most hosting offering out there will do the job, including GoDaddy, on the basis that they do not really attract much traffic. eg. a few dozen rather than thousands of users on a daily basis. So hosting-wise i think almost everything will do.

Now, when it comes to making a website there are lots and lots of options. One cheap one (but no so user friendly in my opinion) is Wordpress. It's free software which has lots of free web design templates and lots of free addons. You can just use an existing free theme (ie. web design template), change your logo, colours, text and you're done. ..and it's free.

Hi Shaun!

I agree with the comments above. For starting small any major hosting provider would be a good option. Once you start small you can then upgrade or change your host accordingly.

Godaddy Managed Wordpress might work well for you. Just make sure that you get a decent theme.
