Course Fishing

Hi all you fishermen out there,

My husband is thinking of doing Course Fishing along side our 5 CL. Possibly fishing rallies and matches.

Please may I have your advice and views on this.

Thanks

Claire

Sorry, it's a caravan site, just a small one. (CL means Certified Location). Does anyone do Course fishing out there? If so, what do you expect from a location and how much would you expect to pay?

Regards,

Claire

This is a very specialised area - why don't you buy the Angling Times and see what the competition is doing?

People who have lakes on their property stock it with fish, trout and salmon I think. They then charge anglers to fish. The angler has a good chance of catching a fish and the cover charge takes care of the licence.

There is often a smaller section that is absolutely loaded with fish and extra is charged to fish there. Catching a fish is guaranteed so the customer is allowed to catch 1 or 2 at most. This is great for kids and beginners.

Carp fishing is big bucks but you need to get the right stock etc. Coarse fishing is popular but you cant charge as much. If i was staying on a caravan site i wouldnt be prepared to pay for fishing on top i would expect it for free like many others do. Have you any experience of fishery management ? Ive been fishing over 20 years but i wouldnt have a clue about what is required to manage a fishery. Things like certain weedgrowth could wipe out your fish stock just like cormorants ( sea birds),eastern europeans strealing fish with nets for food (a big problem in some areas).Illegal transfers of fish bringing in [SIZE=-1]disease wiping out stocks etc.
If you want big carp which people will pay good money to try and catch you will have to pay good money for each fish about 5K for decent fish.
It takes years to get a fishery established and mature as the plants takes time to settle and spread naturally.
Some do pay to fish barren holes in the ground but with so many pretty well established fisheries peoples needs are changing now.

I think I'd also look at fly fishing for trout.

Rainbows can be stocked and fished for all year round (no closed season as they are sterile). Fly fishermen are also used to paying for their fishing.

There's a place near my home that stock trout, the only trouble is, that to fish there you need to be a highly rated professional person.

There are Judges, Doctors, Surgeons and a few Lawyers that fish there, but its definately out of bounds to oiks like me. :( I know of a few businessmen that have offered big bucks to fish there, but don't get beyond the gate...

I live very close to the River Tweed, Ettrick and Yarrow.

Apparently some people pay tens of thousands of pounds to fish for salmon on the Tweed, more so the famously named - Junction Pool near Kelso.

Many celebs fish the Tweed, Chris Tarrant is a regular.

However, beats me why anyone would pay thousands to catch a Salmon but then im a country guy and living near famous rivers heavily congested with fish doesnt hold excitement for me, right, im off to teach a worm to swim which will be supported by a nice shiny treble hook lol
