Can anyone recommend a UK based supplier that will produce either bespokely made boxes with low MOQs (happy to pay more if they're quality and can do lower MOQ) or for standard off the shelf packaging for cosmetic products please. Our sizing is not unusual, we have bog standard 100g cleanser bottles, 30ml serums, 50g moisturisers etc. It seems almost impossible to find anyone.

Many companies ask for the graphics before they'll quote, but we don't know the bl00dy graphics until we know which box is a flyer. Chicken and egg!

Anyone else have any experience?

Thanks

Thanks for that, appreciated (and had enquired with them all). None able to help.
Ampulla: they do bottles etc, we need boxes
Raepak & Bluesky: Min Order Quantity of 1,000+
Soapkitchen: Don't do custom made tubes. Standard size only.

    Such a painful process!

Then change the size of the bottle. This is only a trial to test the market. It's not ever going to a production run.

I don't see how this is chicken-and-egg as you should know the size of box and what you want printed on it? I can see why you are having issues if you don't as that is the minimum information a box manufacturer would want.

We buy lots of bespoke boxes. If we are buying a box then we know the size we want it to be from what we want to put in it (in our case different size tins, bottles etc). So we tell the manufacturer the size and the board grade/type we want (i.e. how strong it needs to be). We also know what we want printed on the box too. If its basic black marks (like upside arrows on opposite sides or a printed code for instance) that is the sort of thing you'd just inform them of what you want and where and they should be able to do a proof. If it is a more elaborate design you'd be expected to send an artwork file of your design over to their studio and they'd generally do a repro on it to make the artwork suit the box itself and send it back to you for final proofing. The costs of set-up/repro will likely be several hundred depending on a fancy design fyi (on top of your own artwork costs), that is before a single box has been made/printed incidentally. Plain boxes only sized bespoke or with simple print shouldn't expect to incur much cost to set-up. But I guess depends on MOQ/manufacturer.

The reason they ask for your graphics is to know how many colours you'll be using as well as positioning (side or lid or both) which will affect the costing as well as artwork templates.

They also want the graphics to take you seriously, as factories often get numerous requests for quotes just for comparison and nothing happens after that.

This is quite a reasonable MOQ for a custom printed box for most industrial producers. The machinery runs very quickly and the set up on 1000 will probably take as long as running the boxes.

If you only want a few it might be worth looking at either a Cricut or Silhouette, a search for "cricut box template printing" will point you in the right direction

Not sure what end of the market you are at; I've had some very fancy boxes made for electronics products previously, by an outfit that major in beauty / premium drinks packaging etc, as they really got the quality required for the application. Great quality product UK made, but obviously you pay for it. Having said that, cosmetics are 95% packaging anyway, right?! :)
    These folk:

Our quantities were much less than 1000pcs, but the boxes were pretty large so I don't know if that factored (ie overall order value was still high even though volume was lower than 1000pcs).

You'll need to have some kind of idea of what you're wanting to do graphics wise to get a sensible quote. Maybe an approach is to look through their previous works, and suggest you'd like one like that and then you can get a quote within bounds of what that design involved. And then you can do your artwork once you're happy with a quote.
