Bit of a tricky one to explain but,

Just got new PC with Windows 11

When I copy n paste a URL in to a gmail it doesn't paste the URL but converts it to the name of the page of the URL (it is still a hyperlink)

When I copy n paste a URL in to an X post it converts it to the name of the page of the URL, but this time it isn't a hyperlink.

Anyone know what is causing this?

Testing if URL shows when copy n pasting here - https://www.uksbd.co.uk/

It’s gmail/winsows trying to be helpful and looking up the link for you. Even worse, sometimes you get a snippet (UKBF often does this).

It’s you! Always wondered if anyone actually uses the spyware commonly known as Edge. But now I’ve found someone!

Much prefer to see things tailored for me rather than randomized
It’s a browser! How is it tailored for you?

In Bing, for me - right click the URL (do not select it and copy) and select 'Copy Link'.

    Then just paste it.

Sorry, Edge (it defaults to Bing for me...).

It's not the copying it's the pasting.

The default setting in Edge is when pasting a URL it adds a link with the title of the page as the link text.

You can override it by using "paste as plain text" or change the default in the Edge settings

When I use Edge I am signed in with my Microsoft account and usually my personal Google account.

Rather than changing any settings or accounts in the browser, I flick between browsers, I use Chrome more in guest modes or for using different Google accounts

I use Edge as my daily default browser with the settings how I like them and use Chrome, Firefox, Opera for different purposes.

Personally, I much prefer Edge, but that's probably just habit
