Hi everyone,

hoping you can help.

Basically on the foot of my emails it says:
This email and any attachments to it may be confidential and are intended solely for the use of the individual to whom it is addressed. Any views or opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of ******

An email I sent in private to one person was forwarded to a competitor.

Thanks

I suppose the idea is by adding disclaimers at the end of the email the recipient would have by that point read the email and not had a choice whether they wish to abide by your confidentiality disclaimer or not.

"The value of the notice is that, if the disclosure of the content of an email becomes a subject of dispute, it would be possible to point a court to the existence of the confidentiality notice and argue that the recipient should have known to not disclose the contents of the message."

Same link
as above.

Which means the confidentiality notice could have some force after the message has been read.
