Alrighty There People!
Having a bit of a mare with my laptop at the moment...
So on Thursday I was surfing the net,no problem, same sites I always frequent. Got home, didnt touch it. Friday morning, turned it on,it boots up,and stays on NOD32 splash screen. Mouse works, but start menu and other icons unresponsive. Ctrl Alt Delete works, click on start task manager, nothing happens. Reboot machine in safe mode, reboots fine. Run an antivirus scan, nothing detected. Manage to download ccleaner on another pc,runs that, gets rid of 450mb of stuff. Turn off startup things like Msn, skype, nokia, sony ericson, windows sidebar,nod32.reboot normally, problem persists.
Now,normally,im good at solving this kind of issue, but without an error message or task manager,im a bit stumped. I cant get online with it,because the wireless button on the laptop is nonresponsive, and i cant figure out how to override it.
And im posting this message on my n95 so apologies for any daft mistakes.
Help!
Oh,and laptop is fujitsu siemens amilo, running vista.

Cheers for the help people, I ran System Restore and I'm back up and running - Vista mustn't have like an update that was downloaded on 13 November. So I've cancelled auto updates.

Panic over - thanks again.

i've seen other people with vista update problems...

but turning them off has got to be a really bad move unless you are scrupulous about updating manually..

as soon as there is a serious security bug that can be exploited your machine will be rammed full of all kinds of internet nastiness!

i'm a big ubuntu linux fan these days and definitely stick to it for things like internet banking etc

the latest version is really quite nice to use as well :)

What sometimes happens (more often than it probably should) is that M$ release an update, it messes with a small percentage of setups, then they release a new version the following week.

So, if you have your updates turned off, leave it that way for a week or two, then turn them back on again - they'll probably have the patched update available by then.
