If you own the company name then you can complain if anyone else registers something too close, or tries to pass themselves off as you.

Copyright registration may need something further though - have a look at the Intellectual Property Office website.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Thanks Mike, is it possible to register a company name, but without having my personal details available to all?

As a director there's nothing you can do about your name and birth month/year being published (apart from in special circumstances).

The other two things to look out for are the registered office address and director's service address, both of which are made public. To avoid having your address published online, you can use a mail forwarding / virtual office service for these. If you have an accountant, they may let you use their address for free or a small cost.

Thanks Mike, this is all quite new to me. How do I view someone elses registration details?

Also, before registering a company at Companies House make sure to check if there is any active trademarks in place for the name as registering a name does not give you trademark protection or you may be infringing on someone else's rights.
