Hi all,

We are stuck thinking of a name for our CRM , consulting business
we keep coming up with names and then rejecting them .
Is there someone who can help us or do we need to just keep plugging away with it.
i feel like we are wasting a lot of time of this activity so would like to get it nailed and then move on.
However my fear is that if we dont like it once we have paid for a website and business cards etc etc then it will be money down the drain.
Whats the best advice to come up with something and stick to it.

When I started out one of the biggest issues for me was finding a name I liked.. I looked at brands like nike, google and starbucks and thought great branding was something I need to get right..

As I've gone on though I've learnt that a name is actually less important than the traction behind your brand - get the right traffic and lots of business and the name won't matter BUT if you have no leads and no chatter then maybe a name that's catchy will help.

Of course branding is important, but it shouldn't prevent you going live so I'd agree you're probably wasting time on it as you have more important things to worry about like where's your first sale coming from etc.

As for the big brands then it's useful to remember the following:

Nike - originally called Blue Ribbon and meant to be called Dimension Six, they called it Nike at the last minute with the view to changing it and Phil Knight (founder) hated it! Even the swoosh logo cost about $35 from an art student.

Starbucks - an old coffee bean brand bought out by Il Gornale coffee shops, they decided to use the Starbucks name because it was better.

Google - originally planned to be called "backrub", it was then decided to change the name to "googol" but they spelt the name wrong when looking for a free url and the incorrect spelling stuck.

Use your surname, the name of your dog, a place you like or make something up.

Use this as the business name then do a 'trading as' of you want something CRM specific. The domain name can be anything you like. After all, diy.com works OK for B&Q.
