Choosing a Domain / Business Name for a Local Business

Hi all, I know this is the age old question of exact match domain vs brand name...but I'm building a website for my brother in law and I've noticed an easy to remember, domain name available to register.

Examples of the available domain would be Londoncleaning.co.uk or cardiffcleaning.co.uk

For those of you in digital marketing would you bother with a name like these?

For me, I prefer building a stronger brand and not using localised EMD's unless is a complimentary website to the main business website. It does depend on the goals your brother has also.

yes I agree, I was thinking of using the local EMD as a complimentry website to gain more traffic and leads....but the business is only a small exterior cleaning business and from as far as I can tell, he has no plans to go national.

so would you still rule out the EMD? It does seem a little restricting, especially if work comes from slightly outside your target area....

one more thing.....what do you think about .uk domains? If a .co.uk has been registered would you bother with a .uk for branding?

I don't have any concerns over using .uk domains, but in the situation, you are talking about you would not want to be in conflict in the search results with another domain that is the same essentially, also you have the legal angle to think of.

Register your brother’s name as the domain. That way their business will not be limited to a location or service.

I think that has good and bad points. I have thought about it.

What if he employs some time in the future?

What if he wants to sell the business at some point?

It does have pro's and con's.....
