Christmas is just a roast dinner with the family.

We don’t bother with cards, don’t do presents so all that’s left is a meal similar to what we do most weekends. With same people we see most weekends.

I'm allowed a glass of Peroni with tomorrows dinner, plus I will have some pigs in blankets.

I may also have a different type of cheese than cheddar over the next couple of days,
It’s like having two birthdays.

Well Christmas is a family affair , but living in Spain we are having it at home this year with friends.

Video call to family in UK, and out for meal at restaurant in the marina enjoying the sun and jollity with friends.

The wife had her big present early so just a small one today with gifts from family.

Merry Christmas and healthy new year to you all.

Well Christmas is a family affair…
Yes but as many of us see our families regularly why is Christmas any different to any other weekend?

We have family members in 5 different locations (as well as overseas) so it’s not as if we can have a big family gathering. My parents don’t even want us to visit as they can’t cope (because they are very old and grumpy).

This thread isn’t about not enjoying Christmas. It’s just suggesting that it’s just a roast dinner with family.

Christmas IS different. Our immediate family is local and we see them regularly but the grand children are so much more pleasant seeing their expectations and joy. ??
As a family it is the only day of the year that we attend Mass together. The rest of the outer family are scattered around the world because of Mugabe but this was the first year my brother has been with us.
You are really a grumpy old lot. ☃️☃️

To us, it's just a dinner. No local family, though in the past we've visited the in-laws in Ireland. Not even a roast as we're not meat eaters.

The next door neighbours have four adult children. Because they're all working, it's unusual for all of them to be off work at the same time for long enough for them all to gather. So, two adults, one step-father, and then 4 daughters, their partners, and several (I've lost count, four I think) grandchildren in the same place for a few days. I imagine it's the highlight of their year.

I'm not religious, Christmas means nothing to me. I've worked it before, and also been alone for it. However, a forced, set holiday* to give people an opportunity to gather once a year seems like a nice idea to me.

* Yes, I know quite a lot of people are working.

Well when I was a lad a lot of our relations lived in the same road. We still made an event of Christmas with a party and fun and of course a special roast we normally could not afford.

I think Christmas is an opportunity to do something different, I had fish instead! Some people invite others in to their home, especially if they are less fortunate. You make of it what you want and if staying at home with your immediate family then fine.

Happy New Year to you anyway.
