Ceased Trading!!

Hello, I have recently trained with a company for a particular qualification. Before I had finished and obtained my certificate and CPD I found out they had taken down the website without informing myself or other participants on my course. I have tried to obtain my certificate etc and I have now asked if they would give my part of my money back. I have informed them I will need to get my solicitor involved but they have finally emailed me back and stated they have ceased trading and therefore it would be pointless instructing a solicitor. I have searched companies house and there doesn't appear to be any change in their status (in other words it appears they are still trading).
Could someone let me know what else I can do or where I can search?
Thank you.

You can get a solicitor involved. May not do anything more than if you wrote a letter though.

If they have ceased trading then could be months before companies house shows an update. Mine took 7 months for companies house to notice anything. Have seen longer.

If they are insolvent then you are at best one creditor among probably many. Maybe you'll get a little back, maybe nothing. Depends on how much is owed to creditor and how much is raised from sale of assets / paying of insolvency costs / money left.
If money is paid out to creditors it will be on a pro rata basis. They owe you say £500 and HMRC £50k, each gets a pro rata share of the funds available.

'Active' on Companies House does not mean the Company is still trading.
