CDS Software

As you only expect to have a low volume of imports Is there a reason why you want your own CDS software? This software is often quite costly.

Completing customs entires can be quite complex and time consuming if you are not familiar with the process. Most people use the services of a customs clearance agent who already has the software and more importantly the skills to make a declaration for you.

If you do want your own software HMRC publishes a list of products. I am not permitted to post a link so look up list of software developers providing customs declaration support.

You may also consider your local chamber of commerce who I understand have access to allow member importers to complete their own declarations.

HI.

As has been mentioned, unless you are doing large numbers of entries, and have experience in customs entries, I would not recommend looking to do your own.

The cost is prohibitive for purchasing the software, and it is normally an ongoing licence fee, as the software needs to constantly be updated as HMRC make changes.

I would definitely suggest speaking to clearance agents, who would be able to assist you.

Hi,

I can only agree with the answers already provided.

It is more time and cost effective to use a customs clearance agent, especially considering the complexity of completing the declarations.

However, if you wish to purchase a software for in-house use, I could recommend online platforms for customs clearance , they can provide a demo and pay per declaration or monthly subscription.

The cost is prohibitive for purchasing the software,
Is this because HMRC make access expensive or that software companies are raking it in?

I smell an opportunity!

Neither . HMRC don’t charge for access It’s just really complex to make a customs declaration as an individual importer unless you have plenty of time to understand all the detailed information and codes to input.
Quite a few of the software companies have gone to the wall recently so hardly raking it in .
The OP was asking about software fir CDS Which is entirely unnecessary for small importers.
It’s just easier to find a customs broker and pay them for their time and expertise to do it for you.

@Customs Geek thanks for the feedback.

With access being free and things only being a matter of passing data (I probably have over simplified that!), creating a core system is not that difficult, however, I think how it ties into other systems is probably where the issues crop up!
