No idea, but I have seen people asking about buying good quality second hand clothing by the ton, usually Polish or other Eastern European.

i run a second hand baby clothes shop which is not going well i was looking to do a cash 4 clothes type shop within the shop but dont now who buys the clothing looked all over internet, someone must buy these clothes to ship abroad not worth shipping myself as only a small shop
does anyone now who buys bulk second hand clothing prefere north east area
contacted one company who says i would have to set up shop buy van scales signs ect in there logos and buy clothing in for 65p they would then buy of me for 85p this means i would have to spend thousands for very little return i have shop and van already
help would be great rent due in march and things dont look good only making about £100 per week at moment luckly not paying wages ect

I have recently set up a cash for clothes business in the north west of England. I would be grateful if anyone could provide advice and information on which companies I can approach to resell approximately 6 tonnes of used clothes per week. In addition, I am very eager to know what price per tonne is currently being paid for used clothing. Any help or support would be grately appreciated. Many thanks in advance

they pay you per kilogram of clothing, and the rate is about 50pence or so, me and my partner were going to sell our unneeded clothing that way, but changed our mind, as you're getting squat for your clothes.
I am from Romania, and people over there go nuts about clothing manufactured in the Western Europe, and costs over there for clothes are really high. For clothing manufactured in the UK you'd be making a fortune when only a t-shirt sells for £20.

Hi everyone
I recently started up a small business similar to cash for clothes. I buy decent second hand clothing per kilo and sell them individually at boot sales. I am currently over run and have just over a tonne! I have people calling everyday for me to buy their clothes. Was wondering if any knew how I'd go about shipping in bulk abroad. Thanks in advance

I would like to sell clothes on I have tonnes of them and need them moved asap I can email pictures over for your friend I have new stuff and some once worn items we could prehaps come to an arrangement so he keeps a percentage of the money for his charity for example. Please let me know thanks

I am thinking about setting up my own cash for clothes business in the Midlands. My plan was to start small & flyer my local area (staffs) saying that I will collect clothes from people & weigh it at their homes & give them 50p per kilo. Once I start to get money I can then rent a little shop & an out of town container. All this I think sounds like a good plan. My only problem is I don't know what to do with the clothes once I get them. I really need a contact that I can then sell on to so they can be shipped to Easter europe. Can anybody help.

don't make a mistake into thinking you can sell any clothing in Eastern Europe, reason why that has become a popular destination is because consumers are very keen on big brand names (mainly Italian). On my last visit to Romania, I walked past this shop that was selling "Used Clothing All British Imports" , I don't know who you can contact over here to help you with your business, but why don't you check on google for businesses is Bucharest, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, etc the main cities and give them a ring, see whether they'd be interested in buying from you. That way you'll know there is a market and you can start looking for clothing to buy here, rather than buying it and then struggling to get rid of it after.
Many of these small shops that sell used Clothing from Germany and the UK don't have websites (except for those established I believe), so you will find them on national and local forums and web portal from that particular country.

A few years ago I have heard that some charity organisations are actually selling second hand clothes, aimed for poor people, in Eastern Europe for profit. Does anyone know if it is true? Because if it is - it is mean.

charities sell surplus stock to dealers who transport overseas, but only the stuff they cant sell in their shops.
as an aside, charities don't sell themselves, they have trading companies who sell on their behalf, where all profits go to the charitable activity of the charity.
It's not mean, its a business.

There are warehouses full of this type of clothing and mostly for export.
There was an interesting report on radio 4 about this a while ago and from memory it works along these lines.
the buyer offers a Kg price across the board and takes all clothing.
This is then broken down and cherry picked so the good stuff comes out first, and this is resold to countries at a higher than bought in price . so makes a profit
Second round of clothing is again shipped to Africa, they will pay a little more and that why you see the poor kids wearing Football strip and Nike gear when they can't afford to eat.
Third round goes to India, at a loss, but they will take any old tat thats left over

You would need contacts abroad whom you sell to or you can sell to companies or individuals locally who then export themselves or sell to exporters loally or importers abroad. you can get these companies by google and then approaching them individually.
Myself I buy good quality used shoes for export to Africa, mainly men', sports/soccer and kids.
I am looking for suppliers. Please pm me if you have good quality shoes.

Margins in cash4clothes are slim, I run five shops. With the increasing competition in virtually every town city the weights you can get now compared to 3 years ago are tiny. We get about 2 tonne on a good week per shop. With all the overheads what your left with is slim. We are closing two shops down to reduce the running costs (changing one into an ecig shop). The other thing people seem to be forgetting on all the posts is the actual set up costs per shop. I wouldn't start out in this game without £20k- £30k as you have to layout so much before you can sell on in lorry loads abroad. You won't know if your buyer is happy until they have sorted the clothes so you will be waiting 2-3 weeks. So all the clothes your buying in might not meet the grade. I'm looking at the next band wagon ' ecigs' potential there is massive.
