Capital Distribution Schemes

Bonus issue of shares and dividends in specie are two of the Capital Distribution Schemes that come to mind. Are there any other schemes one may have at his/her disposal when considering a distribution of "excess solvency" to shareholders. What are the pros and cons, the legal and the tax implications of these schemes, including the bonus issues and the dividends in specie, in general?
