Can I use my personal car to deliver my shop's goods ordered through Deliveroo?

Hello.

I'm looking into the possibility of using Deliveroo to add a revenue stream to our mom and pop bricks and mortar business.

I've already spoken to them and there is a significant difference in fees between me delivering or using their drivers.

However, I'm not sure on the car insurance side of things. We don't have a delivery service and the majority of our stock is delivered. I suppose technically, the goods are mine as I won't have received payment for them but will the insurers see it that way?

Anyone been in a similar situation?

    Hi @Taverner ,

I suggest you take a look at this people: https://www.zego.com/

This provides a separate insurance policy to your own personal car insurance - it covers the miles you drive on deliveries and charges you just for those.

Zego is bit rubbish, often counts miles incorrectly and works out bit expensive too. Acorn offers a standard car insurance and you can add business plus fast food delivery etc.

You will need hire and reward insurance for your car
I may be wrong, but I thought "hire and reward" was when you are acting as a courier, providing a transport service for two third parties. (E.g. a takeaway driver isn't the food provider or the customer)

It sounds like the OP is producing the product, then delivering it to customers. Business use would definitely apply but since it's their own goods they are not acting as a courier.
