Can I earn money through a free Blog?

Hi All,

I want to know what is a BLOG? How is it useful? What are people trying to achieve using a Blog? What do they earn out of it?

I just received an email stating that start earning money using a Blog, I understand its a spam however this has made me curious can I really make money using a Blog?

Can I just fill anything and everything on a Blog and make money?

I tried making a lot of research on the google and everything seems to be confusing.

Many Thanks in Advance for all views shared...

Cheers

Blogs are online logs, like online dairies. You can make posts about anything then people can read them and usually leave comments. If you post good enough quality content which people will enjoy reading and subscribe to, then you can put Adsense ad's on the page (where you earn money if they're clicked) or post some affiliate links to products/services which people may buy, so you get a commission.

These are the two most common ways of making money from blogs. It isn't a get rich quick method though. You need quality, unique content and a lot of time promoting your blog and letting the visitor numbers build up.

If your a celebrity - yes you can.
If your working for a large company (such as microsoft or google or similar) then yes you could.
If your exceptionally good at writing, and/or marketing/seo etc then yes its possible..

Many people struggle to cover their basic hosting costs with the like of adsense though on blogs.
If you work hard at it, and provide good content, then its a possibility, in time....

If you have many thousands of them then its a possibility for a while.

The people that tend to make the money in the case of the 'make money from blogs' type emails tend to be the ones selling the ebooks, dodgy software etc - not the people that buy them....

As has been said, think of a blog like a online diary, or a site about something you are interested in. You post entries to it, and usually people can leave comments about those entries. The blog could be about pretty much anything you want....

Free blogs are hosted on someone elses server, for example google runs blogger
https://www.blogger.com/start

there are many others, such as wordpress, which is a excellent package
http://wordpress.com/

Or you can download blog software (for example wordpress has the software you can download for free here http://wordpress.org and install it on your own server/hosting.

Blogger allows you to host your blog on your own server also I believe, you dont get the software, it just exports your blog to your server if I recall. Been a while since I used blogger.

Call me a cynic ;) but I cant say I believe one word that is on that website, if he is making that much money doing so little, why on earth is he peddling the 'secret' to the world at 47 dollars a pop?

Unless the secret is to spam lots of blogs, and sell these ebooks on to other people... Talk of google back doors, thousands per month from one blog, yet he shows page views of only around a thousand a day etc - it just dont add up to me.....

I know a few people that run successful blogs and either use them for advertising revenue directly or use it as a goodway of building a respected site by Google and get inbound links to their other sites from it as part of their SEO campaigns.

As others have said, ability to write articles that others will be interested in or find useful is key, secondary skills are around SEO, verging on viral marketing etc to help get it noticed.

Personally never found a topic that I am interested in enough to write a moderate length article on once a week or more.

Call me a cynic

your a cynic :D

yeah i know there are a lot of those BS sales letters about but the guy is genuine & that is his ferrari

its nothing to do with spamming blogs or writing and selling an ebook

but it does involve sitting typing nearly every second of the day

he has blogs on different niches, and as such a niche will never have stupidly high traffic , unless you are lucky

lol, Isnt it a tad misleading of him to start with a title saying "earn him $34,244 a month for just a few hours work" if it really involves typing every second of the day... Saying that, even if you typed every second of the day, it would still be very hard to achieve those figures normally.

i suppose its just how you interpret it,

once your blog gets regular traffic & subscribers then it would only be a few hours of work updating

i hardly got mine off the ground but did make a bit in a nice niche and still do even though i no longer post
but i wouldnt attempt to do it again though

Its possibler, I have a PR3 blog, it makes me maybe $10 a month, yes $10 for writing reviews of sites and products.

I could never get adsense, and had to use one of its competitors like BidVertiser, and made about 20p ;)
