I need to combine PDF documents and convert the combined PDF into image (jpg) files.

There are many free online offerings but they are slow, clumsy or keep asking for my Google or Facebook passwords and even then, they want me to play cryptic puzzle games and tell me I have failed.

Other offerings are expensive, more than the monthly cost of an internet connection.

Can anyone suggest a good, preferably free, software that can do this?

I've used it too, but today it's been nightmarishly slow. taking more than 30 minutes instead of a few seconds. I've had this happen before sporadically.
Just done a test. Took seconds to do the conversion. Which suggests it’s your files not the converter.

How many pdf files are you trying to combine? How many layers in each document? How big are the files?

I've approached Microsoft through their Feedback Hub.

I have put forward new feature suggestions.

  1. Right-click a PDF in Windows and convert it to image(s).

  1. Select a group of PDFs in Windows and set them in order then combine them.

Let's hope my entries get enough votes to be included in a future feature update of Windows 11.

It's the speed of our internet that caused the problems. I've made entries to Microsoft Feedback Hub and hope that will make a permanent fix to the problem of relying on third-parties and Adobe.

Not sure MS will do anything.

Can I ask, why do you even need to convert a pdf to jpg.

I run a legal helpline call centre in the Philippines for a London law firm.

Call handlers take enquiries and assemble the information in a Google sheet and the linked evidence in a Google Doc, then hand over to a case manager.

The case manager collates further evidence from the potential customer who emails it in various formats including PDF's.

The case manager sorts the evidence into chronological order before handing over to a paralegal.

The paralegal assembles the case bundle, sets the cause of action and builds a case summary then hands over to a solicitor in the UK.

We cannot paste PDF's straight into a Google doc.

Bundling assorted file types into a folder is impractical and absorbs too much legal resource unravelling it.

Last night, a cargo ship dragging its anchor snagged on an undersea internet cable and disrupted our internet. Our VOIP and mail server was OK because they connect using microwave relay towers.

The experience was very disruptive. I needed to look for another way to convert PDF's into Google documents without relying on online websites requiring call centre agents to solve online cryptic puzzles (Adobe) to pass a security check.

So far, I think I have found a solution. The Microsoft App store. Two apps are being rig-tested that get the job done quickly with positive results.

Ok. But it’s converting a pdf to jpg that confused. Why convert a compact pdf into a huge jpg file?

Why not just get the law firm to pay for an adobe acrobat license? It’s cheap as chips

Adobe Acrobat must be installed on the client's PC. We work cloud-based. We aren't concerned about the size of a jpg.

The case building and assembly are done on the Philippine side. The legal is on the UK side using interchangeable devices, Macs, Android and Windows connected through HM Court Service wifi.

There have been issues with Adobe products being used from inside HM Court Service firewall.
