can an Amarican e-commerce provider be used?

You really need to ask them!

Also ask if they can handle UK postage, VAT etc.

Also, read the posts about peoples experiences with hosted carts and the visit www.testacart.com, where you can see several 'free' carts, where you only need a host (which can costa few quid up).

Ive found a good site that provides good website hosting Features and it seems to all be American If i were to sign up with them you think i could change the currency from USD to British pounds?

    http://ecommerce.networksolutions.com/

thats the site in question, it looks pretty good.
These guys used to be called Monster Commerce and have a very good store setup. IIRC though the store are heavily US biased and are also remotely hosted in the states which could cause you problems with search engines.

For the money, which over a year will add up, you would be better looking at a UK based provider who offers telephone/email support and a cart designed for UK stores.

    Like us maybe. :)

    Network Solutions!

    Run, run a mile.

This company has sneaky tricks. If you whois for a domain on their site, the buggers go and register it even if you didn't buy it.

This way you can't then go to another company and purchase it, because this lot have blocked that move. And you must wait around 5 days for them to put it back in the system.

Registers are allowed to "test" domains, god knows why its just an abuse of the system, but Network Solutions are doing it to force people to purchase though them.

You can read more about it on Slashdot - http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/01/08/1920215 and here http://slashdot.org/articles/00/05/12/2141250.shtml
