Hello everyone

I'm starting a new plastering business and want to get my van signed up with name and logo and some business cards the same. Is there anywhere i can get help with the design of it. Im not very creative and need help with this. Is there a link business programme that is there to help start ups?

Try and keep it simple as well. I personally believe text based logo's work best for startups.

Unless you are a huge company with thousands to spend on marketing people won't see or remember any fancy picture logo and it's just a cost a new start up doesn't need.

You can start a logo contest at 99designs.com. You assign a prize, e.g. $220, set a brief, and designers from around the world will submit entries. You just choose the one you like. There are some good designers on there (as well as a lot of bad ones, but that does not matter as you only choose a winner).

There are indeed specialist companies that create logos, but the moment they think that you might be in the market for a logo, they will pester you day and night. Just posting here could have them moving in with you.

On taking a bath tonight, don't be too surprised if you find the proprietor of one of these companies, nestling in the soap-dish!

One of the guys plastering the unit next door had a tee shirt with a basic black and white picture of Lionel Richie with the words " What a feeling, when you're plastering the ceiling" around it. Still makes me laugh and if I needed any plastering done....I'll find him.

Or....

Just put your name and tagline on the van with your phone number and email. Logos and graphics are overrated, especially on vehicles.

And consider you could spend a couple of grand on graphic design and wrapping and discover nobody likes it. Get the business up and running, build and develop the website and see what happens. Most of the tradesmen we use don't even have their name on the van (it attracts thieves).

If you need a logo at all, keep it simple. You are selling yourself and what you probably want to sell is dependability and a quality job and maybe a flashy or "cool" logo would not send out the right message for your business. I would get it designed professionally though and not just get one that comes free with business cards.

Fiverr is a website that has loads of designers that can do logos for about £4. Some has good portfolios so check it out for a cheap solution. I haven't used it myself as our logo was designed by myself, but have heard good things online about it.
