BT Ring Central

Hi there.

Does anybody use BT ring Central for their 0800/0844 etc number?.

And if so, are you having any problems with it?.

Mine stopped being connected on the 26th October and I am having the fight of my life trying to get someone to resolve it for me. Basically if I try and ring the number from a BT landline or a mobile, I get a dead tone or 4 beeps and a message telling me the number is not recognised but if the support ring the number from within the system, it works. So I guess they aren't really looking into as a problem because it works from their Ring Central number. They are based in America somewhere, so naturally getting hold of someone with a bit of nous is like trying to plait fog!.

It seems as though it is a carrier issue I think, so if it doesn't get resolved and they can't sort it without offering a new number, is there any way of taking the number and using it with another supplier?

Obviously I would really like not to have to have all stationary reprinted, leaflets and Vehicle signage:eek: if I can help it, so any advice or a possible solution would be greatly received.

Cheers Will:)

Hi Will,

As this issue has been going on for so long, I would suggest contacting Ofcom. They are in serious breach of contract.

If you can, find out about having your number ported to someone else. I have one question, have you continued to pay for the service. If not they may argue that you have terminated the service.

If you dont have any joy, feel free to contact me.

It is frustrating to say the least. Is Ofcam still applicable as they are an American outfit with a Psuedo uk number.

Yes I am paying and have since april 08 for various services.

I shall ask about porting the number tomorrow, when I ring for the 700th time!

Cheers Will

You could port your numbers over to us, then you'd have a system that worked, does more, costs less and has proper UK customer support.

    Just a thought ;-)

Can you set a custom answerphone message for a number with VoipFone yet which works similar to ring central? I.e. I want my 0845 number always forwarded onto another number (landline or mobile) however if I don't answer within a set time then a caller hears a custom answerphone message for that 0845 number rather than my standard mobile answerphone message.

I use voipfone however have to also use ring central to achieve this required functionality.

I'm sure last time I checked I couldn't setup this scenario with you guys, has anything changed?

Can the numbers be diverted to a Mobile with you?.
And does any messages get sent as a Wav. File to email?
And does your fax service operate the same as their's does?.

Divert to voicemail is now timed at your discretion from 1 second up to 10 minutes.

Not sure about this. I think you mean that you want the call once diverted to your mobile to revert back to your voipfone answering service if unanswered. If that's the case then no, I'm afraid not - once the call has been sent elsewhere it doesn't return.

But I'll check, it could be something we should build.

    Sounds like the one!.

Basically I have an 0800 number and a 0844 fax number, the 0800 needs to be diverted permanently to 2 mobile numbers, with a greeting on, on hold music interrupted every 15 seconds or so. If not answered, message is left and sent to email. The fax needs to do what you offer.

How much per month for a reasonable minutes package and what does a diverted call cost to a mobile per minute.(Just so I can get off the phone sharpish!;)).

And how long does a ported number take to do(if of course they let me, even though it doesn't work!)

    Chheers Will.:)

Yeah, thats what I'm after, and this is why I use Ring Central as you can do stuff like this, and have custom greetings messages depending on the number calling etc...

I use a mobile but have different numbers diverted to it for different businesses so can't just have a standard mobile answerphone message.

Currently I purchase an 0845 from you, do line presentation (that thing which displays which number has been dialled rather than the number of the caller), then forward this onto Ring Central to use their extra answer phone services as described. If I don't answer a call Ring Central gives a custom answer phone message dependant on the forwarded number.

    The problem is twofold.
    1. I have to pay for a full Ring Central subscription just to use the answer phone options.
    2. More importantly, it takes a while for the calls to be routed through the various systems so when you actually call one of my numbers, it seems like its ringing for ages before my mobile actually starts ringing, not ideal at all.

I would definitely pay extra for a Voipfone service which could provide this...

Packages are for 500, 1000, 2000 minutes - generally only used by heavy users - they are particularly good value for international.

Most people just use pre-paid calling credit. Calls to UK landlines 1p per minute, to mobiles 12p. Charged per second.

    All our prices are here:

    http://www.voipfone.co.uk/prices.php

It takes about 2 weeks - BT don't move quickly. To save time, email the numbers to porting at voipfone co uk and we'll check if they're ok to port.

    Full Porting info here:

    Yeah, thats what I'm after

As far as I'm aware you're the only person that has ever asked us for this :)

However, I've added it to the dev list - don't hold your breath tho' - seems unlikely to be looked at for a while unless it meshes with something else we might be doing

The Voipfone geek has escaped.... ;)

We can indeed configure our service to ring through to one or more mobiles then go to a voicemail box on our network should the call go unanswered after the time you have set.

If you're needing seperate voicemails for different numbers then two Voipfone accounts would do the job, seperate voicemail on each.

Do you already have a PBX extension? If not then one will need to be ordered via the package builder.

Then set your number here https://www.voipfone.co.uk/extensions.php#inbound to ‘ring extension group’. Set the divert to your mobile here https://www.voipfone.co.uk/diverts.php and set the timeout before voicemail activates here https://www.voipfone.co.uk/vmtimeout.php
You can also set your business hours here https://www.voipfone.co.uk/extensions.php#hours so calls instantly go to voicemail outside of your set hours.

Cool, managed to set all that up, one further question. If my phone is engaged when someone rings it my mobile answerphone picks up the call, whereas when I use ring central, if my mobile is engaged then ring central voicemail cuts in, is there anyway to set this functionality with Voipfone?

Another problem, the recieved call logger no longer seems to be registering calls on it, I need this as because I do line presentation, I have no other way of calling anyone back...

EDIT: Sorry, just noticed them in the missed calls list...

Did you have to press something to confirm you wanted to accept the call when ring central forwarded to you?

With our service you'll have to disable your mobile voicemail if you don't want it to answer calls made to the number diverting.

No, with RC it always went straight to the RC voicebox if mobile was engaged / off, it's not too much of a problem, I'll prob just change my mobile answerphone to be a little more ambiguous i.e. 'you have reached Darren Atkinson's anwerphone etc...'

    Thanks for your help!

Just noticed that BT has closed Ringcentral - looks like they got fed up with it.
BT Ringcentral is no longer available to new customers
    http://www.ringcentral.bt.com

They've never had any sort of commitment to small businesses - they either want mass market of corporate.

    Cheers for your help Cjd.

It is like pulling teeth trying to get someone to work it out for me at Ring Central.

When the system works it is excellent but when there is a problem, it really is like the lottery as to how you get it resolved.

Number still doesn't work, 17 days on!

Not saying your system isn't as good though..;)

You doubt you'll get much interest now that BT have closed it for new members.

It's only an inbound service too - didn't realise that it's just an expensive switchboard.

Yes I noticed a couple of months ago about the new customers aspect.

Didn't think too much about it to be honest at the time, it seems I should have done.

Right Cjd, I need an 0800 number with prepaid calling credit type scenario.I would divert the number to 3 numbers based on whether they are answered or not, i'm sure you know the score.

I have been on your website, plenty of info, it just didn't seem to tell me where to buy one?.

My old number has 6888 at the end, quite memorable, any chance of something similar?. That is of course if you sell and allocate numbers?.

I am assuming from all the great referals on here that the system works, that would be a real treat!.

I am mindful of replacing all the stationary, vehicle signage and leaflets but a man has got to do, what a man has got to do, so changing a 3rd time would be an absolute no-no!

If you would so kind to set something up for me, or at least point me in the right direction to make the process easy for a barnyard-oaf to complete, then please PM me and I will oblige with payment.

    Cheers Will:)

they have a little bit of software that you download that sits on your bar at the bottom. It can be used with headphones and a mic type thing or a usb phone.

Once open it rings a bell in your ear if someone rings and you can then decide where the call goes, pretty good bit of kit really.:)

Yes, all they're doing there is routing inbound calls (ie calls coming into your number) somewhere else. But you've still only got one line so you can only deal with one at a time and you can't make an outbound call yourself (except on the same line as your BT number).

With our numbers, you have as many lines (ie simultaneous calls) - both inbound and outbound - as your own network can handle - plus we do all the switchboard routing too. (And we cost less).

    <rant off>

Dunno whether this will confuse you further, but it might help:

I have used Ring Central for approx 12 months without any real problems until 5 weeks ago i logged in and my contacts list just vanished .
Three weeks later i did a routine call to my 0800 number check only to find my business line was not recognised.
I have called Ring Central probably 10-15 times now and still get the same answers from thier ever so apologetic staff .
I have just spent £2500.00 on advertisements in this years yellow pages (which has now been distributed )the advertisements only include my Ring Central 0800 number and Ring Central simply offer me a NEW 0800 number even after i have explained this 5 times to them.
I am getting very frustrated with Ring Central not replying to my calls and emails .
They continued to take my monthly payment from my account even though they are not providing my line.
They have refunded 1 months payment although they said they would refund 2 months .

All i want is my phone line back on .
I have no idea how much Ring Central are costing me in lost business or what damage they are causing to my company name.

I would gladly move my number to a company who can provide a more reliable service .

The only thing I need from voipfone is proper call queuing:

    - if the line isn't busy, send the caller through
    - if it is busy, tell them position in queue
    - if they wait more than X time, go to voicemail

The third doesn't really matter but the first is important - at present (or last time I tried, a few months ago) the caller gets told they're in a queue so they would put the phone down (hate being in queues)

I think I'm right on the above, I just remembered so thought I'd post before I forgot.

It's often possible to port a BT Ring Central number - we've done many - but it can be difficult sometimes. If you want to know if it can be, email porting at voipfone co uk with the number and point out that it's a BT Ring Central number and we'll check for you.

    Hi CJD,

I am a Voipfone customer and have recently upgraded to your Virtual PBX services.

When I initially set up my business I mistakenly took 2 numbers from RingCentral (0844) numbers.

I have tried twice to get the numbers moved across to yourselves, but I keep being asked for my account number (have been told that an account number sits behind my 0844 number). So they are still with them.

    Please can you help?

If you wish to contact me directly, no probs..

    Thanks

    Peter

Do you mean your Voipfone account number or your BT account number?

Both of us will need that information. Your Voipfone account number is 8 digits beginning with 3. It's in your joining email and you'll find it in your account when you log in.

I can't help with your BT number I'm afraid. If you're still stuck, call 0207 043 5555 and ask to speak to Michelle about a number porting question. They should put you through.
