Bounce rate is a measure of the number of people who land on the site and then leave without clicking on any of the links.

It's not always a bad thing. For example, if you have a PPC landing page optimised for a specific product with a contact form on the page or a contact number it's quite likely that the visitor will arrive, be impressed and ring you up then exit the site. The fact that they didn't visit any other page is irrelvant as you now have the order.
