Bookkeeping training?

Evening all.
I'm looking at offering my services as a bookkeeper but have no formal qualifications at the moment. I am looking at doing the AAT levels 1,2 & 3.

Is this the best route? Any recommendations on training providers?

I currently work up until midday Monday to Friday so have the time to do bookkeeping work.

I guess the ultimate question is can a small living be made from it? Im' not looking to have some big accountancy firm, just a one man band focusing on small business bookkeeping.

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

I guess the first question has to be what is your starting point?

Do you have any significant prior experience?

Other than doing my own accounts and being good at maths i havw no prior accounting experience.

You'll really need to start from scratch which may be a long expensive journey. AAT is probably the best route to follow but maybe start with their bookkeeping qualification. Don't forget if you do start without holding a professional qualification, you will need to register with HMRC under the .Money Laundering Regulations. Good luck
