Not when done by a creative genius.:|

More likely to improve the ranking dramatically.

Earl

If you have a creative genius 'on board' then wouldn't you be better to start your own site rather than shelling out for the domain. How much would you pay for the domain in a year for example?

I know this thread originated from the cruise(s).co.uk discussion but I'm sure that purchase was more about branding and protection than SEO.

Unless you live in zambia 10 quid is hardly shelling out.?:)

Oh well someone shelled out over 500k for one,and as a ready built site with a high traffic count I am expecting Pete to bung me a few million at least.:|

Earl

They bought a keyword domain which is the plural version of their own keyword domain. And in a highly lucrative market. It's a completely different situation.

If you were competing with cruise(s).co.uk then this boat-cruises domain name in itself is not good, as people go on a cruise holiday on a ship. A boat cruise is on a river which is an entirely different (and is a relatively tiny) market altogether.

I don't see any reason why a cruise operator would want this domain.

Jamie...

Your right it is a ship.. not a boat. However, I for 1 type into google "Boat cruise". Local adverts = boat cruise.

They aren't known as ships :p

Actually the winner is "sea cruises";):)

The difference between a boat and a ship is that one floats and the other one floats one hopes.:|

as long as the domain has "Cruise" in it .It Can make a nice few bob given a bit TLC.:)

I don't follow you. If you type in 'boat cruise', results are for river boat cruises.

I know Google's keyword tool isn't entirely accurate but as an indicator searches for [boat cruise] are 0.05% that of [cruise]. Plus a fair proportion of that 0.05% might actually be looking for river boat cruises.

So Pete, do you think you can actually compete for the term [cruise]?

Actually the winner is "sea cruises";):)

The winner of what?

I'm not saying it can't, I just don't see how it can. So please explain to me how this might pan out.

I dont actually see why the big deal about the price :|
I brought it from my own netearth registration company so paid myself as i keep things seperate ..so probably actually cost me a fiver actually ;) i can never be bothered to check what we do make on domain names , but its like a couple of pints of beer . so its nothing.

webspace if you look at the bottome i have 1 Uk server and access to a US one with Mega millions of space !!
Last look i think the site took up 15 mb or something pathetic . so thats like a spit in the ocean..

Now we will let it soak a while i will add a few new pages when the latest cruises get in the port LOL

When i get time i will tart it a tad and sort out the little errors here and there , then let it soak some more .
when it is truly drenched i will stick it up for sale .. if it retains good positioning and i am pretty sure it will.

i will flog it and those who help me with it like i said and i was serious actually.. will get a share .

so just let me know who has linked to it etc.
and then we will all share the fun and the profit that it WILL Make ;)

Oh i got me eyes on a few new ideas actually , but thats a winter thing when i am stuck indoors ..:D

Ones a classic gonna be a winner for sure ..:) Think of Fawlty towers as a clue ;)

from the 'about us' page....

"only day you could get a loss of web hosting is if Gerrys cat pulls the cable out and his MUM doesnt spot it .
But thats only happened 3 times and it was spotted by Johns friend Mikey Michelle who happened to be bending over checking for fluff and noticed it caught up on his stilletto."

priceless - but it explains why I have been having some connection problems this week
