Blogs=SEO?

I am thinking about creating a blog for my business. I have spoke to the company who built my website and they are being idiots (not the word I wanted to use).

If I created a Blog using blogger ect? and then created a link to the blog from my site, would this help with SEO/site views ect?

Or is there another way

Unlikely to have any significant effect... And may be deleted by Blogger at any time without notice. Better to have any content on your own site.

And only bother if you're producing something your customers want to read...

Hi there, First thing is, if you're going to have a blog, it must be on your own site and not in a subdomain for it to be effective. So getting one on Blogger would be a huge waste of your time and resources.

Second thing, I'm with Weblink plus, I would only get into it if you can do at least a couple of solid 500 word plus genuinely informative and relevant articles per month.

Thirdly, seems like you need a new web development company if they can't handle that. Happy to help if you need.

thats the wrong way round, you'd want the blogger to link to your site.
Google scans blogger thats written about drains, drains article links to your site about drains, google thinks 'oh hello this local drains site is acquiring links from articles about drains, lets bump him up'.
You should sort your website our first, scrap that site and make a new 1

As already suggested, integrate the blog into your own site. You seem to be looking for shortcuts - there aren't any. If you want to do this properly you need a new site, fixing the existing site is going to be far more difficult that starting again.

If you do it right you won't even need a blog.

As above...do not under any circumstances invest your time into writing blog posts for BLOGGER. Get a blog on YOUR website, so that people landing there might convert into sales/customers. Landing people on a Blogger blog is never....ever....ever going to produce a single sale for you.....ever. You might as well spend your time standing in the middle of a busy road, hoping that a potential customer might hit you with their car.

If I can get the web design company to embed a RSS feed, so I can have the blog running on my website. that would be advantages thou right?

If you are talking about populating the blog on your own website using an RSS feed, then the answer is no.... that would not be advantageous in any way. It would lead to duplicate content issues, and would not aid your SEO efforts at all... it would most likely harm them.

Haha thanks for all the advise, your stopping me from making some big mistakes I feel.

Ive been doing some research I can kinda have a blog on my site it just does not allow for people to make comments ect, so its again would not help me.

Would I be better of, writing articles (and maybe an infographic) and submitting them to blogs within my sector asking if they post it for a link back to the site?

Have a look at our blog. We have very few comments at all from visitors... but much of our traffic comes via the blog. Now imagine we didn't have those articles on our blog....imagine they were on blogger. The people landing on those blog posts wouldn't see our portfolio, our contact details, our case studies etc etc etc. they would see a plain looking blog post or info graphic.

If the only think stopping you putting blog posts on your own site is the fact comments don't work...I certainly wouldn't let that stop you.

I hope you don't mind me being honest.... but there are other things I would focus on with your website before you even think about your blog.

It's not a blog you need, it's a whole site makeover. A blog is just another way to add content - you don't need a blog, you just need great content on the existing site.

Nope. Put the articles and infographics on your own site.

A blog or other information resource on your site can be good for seo provided you know what you're doing. Lots of people blindly stick blogs on their sites and actually harm their SEO by cannibalising all their keywords when trying to write 'relevant' blog posts. So, if you do it, you should watch out for that.

If you start blogging... create a newsletter (eg if you're doing a blog a week, then put 4 together every month) and email it to your customers. As long as they're useful blogs, this will help drive traffic.

Blogger can work well for part of a backlink profile but not for the main blog. This is going to take a lot of your time to do - and creating useful content is the way forward. Useful content must be better than the other useful content out there.

Most definitely - the skyscraper technique works. Unfortunately most people will not put the time and effort it takes to create beautiful content. It takes a LOT of time and I am also genuinely guilty of this . Taking out time out of your busy work day to research to thesis levels and create content that people will genuinely want to read takes hours and hours of work.

For the rest they will toodle along nicely with whatever natural links they build which is money left on the table. Time Vs Money again...

Improving your site's performance will only start on its own and not by creating a blog site

Focus on your target audience in terms of blogging because i believe that this platform is not meant for backlinking purposes but on making interesting and beneficial story for the users.

Although I am not a big fan of blogger, it is an easy platform to use and you can actually self host a blogger blog on your own domain. You don't need to have a blogger domain name and the files are stored on your host so you have complete control. You can set this up as a sub domain.

These days blogs are more powerful for creating great content for your customers to read and helping build a reputation, but they are also still very effective in generating traffic if used properly.

I think the question you should ask yourself is what is the purpose of the blog?

Site views and seo count for nothing unless you have a definite purpose for your visitors.

When you know what you want your visitors to do when they're on your blog, you'll know what content will work best for the desired outcome.

You should do both - blog on your site and submit guest posts - best to do both! You should also post links on other sites pointing back to your blog posts

Yup, like most people are saying, best getting a blog like yourdomain/blog/ and making relevant and linkworthy content. Once people link to these pages, then you link to the content you want to push thus passing nice link juice and qualified leads.

P.S. And you have MUCH more control of a blog on your website!

A blog only works if the content is good. Self-hosting a blog is preferable. Don't just have a blog for the sake of it. If your website needs a news section then have a news section.
