Best phone number redirect service?

Hi.

I am looking to buy a Birmingham landline number (0121 suffix) that I can then redirect to a mobile/landlines as needed.

Who do you recommend?

At the moment I am looking at these:
http://www.ttnc.co.uk/numbers/local-area-codes.do

Mainly because the rates are cheap. Incoming calls are 2p per minute if redirected to a landline and 12p per minute if a mobile. Rates cheaper than this would be preferable. For example, when looking at 0845 numbers it seemed common for redirects to landlines to be free.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew

Just seen this post

Ok, we charge £2 per month, per number, for the service. If you redirect to a landline, it won't cost you a penny, if you redirect it to a mobile it will cost you 9.5ppm.

Hope this helps

PM me for more details

Why on earth would you not be looking for VoIP services?

Voipfone.co.uk - £1.99 per month per number, all calls can be forwarded to mobile or another landline, or sent to an interactive IVR system.
What I mean is I don't want a 0121 number that redirects to a voip phone. If if is a 0121 number that directs to my mobile then what part of that is voip? Is the only difference their systems that I need not worry about?

The companies you're likely to use will be using voip technology - i.e. ultimately, if someone calls the 0121 number, it'll be directed to their asterisk (voip) server and then sent back out again to your mobile/landline.

voipfone are well respected on here, I'm sure they'll be along shortly (username CJD)

For a few pounds more you could have the call answered by one of those interactive systems, and set up the "press 1 for sales, press 2 for accounts" sort of system. Of course you can set it up so that no matter which number they press, it ends up just ringing you anyway ;)

This is how we do it:

    http://www.voipfone.co.uk/Call_Forwarding_And_Divert.php

There's no real difference for simple call forwarding service from a VoIP company or an old fashioned circuit switched outfit as the divert happens in the network. With 2 big exceptions

    1. If you wish to answer the call directly using a VoIP phone (instead of your landline or mobile) the call 'divert' is free.
    2. You can use the new telephone number to make outgoing calls too. (Normal call forwarding is just an inbound service) - this means that you have a fully functioning telephone 'line' to both make and receive calls for the cost - in our case - of £1.99 per month.

DO NOT USE SOHO66 ( i now use NTA ltd, but shop around online, depends what you need) the only reviews on here for Soho 66 it would seem are from SOHO 66 themselves. I started using this company 6 months ago and I have had nothing but trouble with them. I would consider myself a fairly reasonable person, and think they have the right idea, and it is a simple portal to use. The problem is, when you have a problem. Their sales/ call centre reps are very unhelpful and their trouble shooting is very poor. I am now stuck with a number I cannot transfer and I would recommend no one using this firm, there are many better ones out there, just shop around on the internet, as I am not here to plug other sites, just warn you against this one.

This gentleman failed to pay invoices assigned to his account and despite many reminders continued to fail to do so.

Services were suspended on his account and eventually removed at which point he threatened to post poor reviews of our company unless we reinstated his services free of charge

I offered to pay the two months outstanding invoices due to an accounting error (amounting to £8). They would not allow me to do this and wanted to extort a £40 reconnect charge from me. I said this was unfair, and would not use them again, I now have a much better service and think people should know about their practices. They were also a poor service for the most part.

I'm not going to turn this into a flame war so, will not comment further after this post on the issue. I will, however, state that this customer had been reminded several times over a considerable length of time that invoices were outstanding on his account. To bring the customers same numbers back would have involved a coordinated manual effort on ours and our carriers part to restore the number from a quarantined state.

With regards to poor quality of service, you will find reviews on many sites which state that we are an excellent provider, we use uncompressed VoIP codecs for optimal sound quality, maintain low contention ratios hosting our equipment in high-profile tier 1 data centres. As for customer service, we have a 1 business day turnaround on communication by e-mail, and attempt to solve all problems there and then when a customer calls.

I've checked our communication history from this customer and, can find absolutely no correspondence, except the problem of his numbers not working after service had been terminated.

To get this thread back on track, I use these guys ttnc.co.uk - there is a £25 set up cost on a number of your choice (from those available). I then get charged at 2p per min for redirect to a land line. With no monthly charges I couldn't find cheaper package and I haven't had any problems with the service at all over the six months I've been using them.

I don't plan changing numbers for 10 years and have about 100 minutes a month on divert.

    TTCN cost
    Set up £25
    Monthly fee £0
    Call divert £0.02 X 100 minutes X 120 months = £240
    Total cost = £265

    "Cheaper option"
    Set up £0
    Monthly fee - £1.99 X 120 = £238.80
    Call divert cost = £0.01 X 100 minutes X 120 months = £120
    Total cost = £358.80

hmmm, is 35% more expensive really cheaper? it depends if you want a short term fix or are planning a long term business option, For anyone on 300 minutes + a month divert it may start to make sense.

A ten year costing period is a little optimistic - I suspect there will be a few pricing changes during that period. If you take the first 12 months or look at higher calling patterns (100 minutes per month is extremely low for a business) you get a different picture.

btw - I'm not knocking TTNC at all, they are a good company in a sea of rubbish that is the telecoms industry. I particularly like their no minimum charge and per second billing - that's unusually honest.

It really does depend on how you optimise you telecoms budget. I used to spend, only 5 years ago, £350 a month on a multitude of land lines, fax lines, voip accounts and mobiles. Now telecoms costs are around £75 a month majoring on the mobiles with a limited talk package that i can never get close to breaching and backed up by the landline only for incoming calls, broadband or diverts (via TTNC) from my other office calls. So, unless you have a lot of new callers, its easy to manipulate divert minutes to a minimum as staff and customer migrate naturally to calling mobiles. As mobile call costs continue to fall then land lines will likely become the reserve of a broadband connection with a number for convenience rather than the main point of communication. One reason why BT is striving to change it's business model to more of a Sky competitor.

Communications channels have many options but the one good thing is that they all offer something a little different and the diversification adds to competition, usually a good way to deliver better pricing, innovations and service for all. I have just detailed something that worked for me and reduced my satellite office phone and divert costs from around £24 per month to around £2 per month enabling me to support the government with an additional £40 in corporation tax and myself with £200 more in disposable dividend.
