I am updating site and want to use other form of payment other than paypal. I have been advised to use protx - now Sage - anyone got any recommendations on other ones or is this the best? Thanks

Hi Gerry, not sure why this is in SEO section.

You could try Worldpay - bad press of late, I've used them for years and were OK but we moved 2 years ago to a more flexible sys.

Sage seem top dollar at the moment.

There is also a member on here who runs a gateway "iridiumcorp" i think.

Put it in wrong section. Thanks for reply - will have a look at other gateway. Worldpay doesn't get good feedback right now - think will stick with sage

I think thats prudent Gerry, especially in these difficult times when payment processors and gateways can go down the pan as much as anyone else.

Hope the bags are going well.

Just had a look at your site, did you not get it SEO'd in the end?

Hi there

Just to let you know that PayPoint has got 50% off the first three months of monthly fees on all payment gateway packages at the moment. We've also increased the number of inclusive transactions across all packages. What kind of business do you have? If you also take mail or telephone orders, our Virtual Terminal is included with all online payment gateway packages.

You can find out about all of our payment gateway packages at
(3ws)paypoint.net/solutions/payment-gateway/

If you like, I can have someone give you a call to discuss your options - just drop me a PM. The best of luck with your business!

Its worth looking again at RBSWorldpay. They came in for a lot of criticism last year for their truly awful customer account interface but their service and speed of response have improved greatly in the past few months.

SagePay, formally Protx, are a very good choice. I'd probably put them as first choice for businesses looking for a new payment gateway.

Unless PayPoint have stopped charging extra for customer / account support I would consider other options first.

Use the likes of NoChex if you are unable to get an account with a serious business ;)

PayPoint has never charged extra for support, even when we were SECPay and Metacharge! Email support is included in all of our packages at no extra charge, and telephone support is also included in our Professional package, again at no extra charge.

I do apologise, I should have been clearer with my post. PayPoint charge extra for telephone support, is that not the case?

No, PayPoint doesn't charge extra for telephone support; with reference to our gateway packages, telephone support is included in our Professional package.

Details of what is included in each of our gateway packages can be found at (3ws)paypoint.net/solutions/payment-gateway/

Yes you do.

A PayPoint customer can only get telephone support if they pay for the more expensive packages, therefore you charge extra for telephone support.

Its not rocket science, we are comparing service offerings from the leading providers and you are the only provider I have mentioned who charge extra for telephone support.

The difference in price between our Virtual Terminal, Lite, Professional and Enterprise payment gateway packages is based on the features and functionality that each package offers, of which telephone support is only one feature; this includes the different support system that is included within each package.

Across the board, whether your package is inclusive of telephone support or not, we have a policy of supporting all of our merchants to ensure that they are trading online.

I don't doubt that, our mutual clients have not had a single word of complaint about your payment service and seem very happy with it with the exception of the topic we are currently discussing.

If telephone support is not available to all, but is available to people who pay more for more inclusive packages then telephone support is a paid for service.

I am not saying its wrong or that it makes good business sense, what I am saying is that you can dress up your packages in whatever wording you like but the fact remains that you charge extra for telephone support.

On that point alone, your service does not compare well to RBSWorldpay or SagePay who offer telephone support for every customer.

I have just joined the forum and I am in the process on sorting out my payment gateway. I will tell you what I know and have found out. The major thing that no one has mentioned and you need to be careful of is the amount of time you have to wait to get your money. What I have found out that companies like Worldpay can leave you waiting up to 30 days until you get the money which is not good where as other companies can take between 3 ad 7 days.

The other thing to consider as I did is do you want to use a company that integrates both the merchant account and the payment gateway like Worldpay does and Protx doesnt. If you decide to go with protx then you will need an merchant id number what this means is that you will be paying twice. You will have to pay The bank where you get your MIN and then protx for the use of the service.

The company I have decided to use after many weeks of deliberation is securetrading.com there get the MIN for you for a small fee and then you only pay one cost to them. I believe the % i am paying are some of the lowest around especially now alot of companies like google and paypal no longer do free transactions under a certain amount.

I hope this helps in some way.

hello all,

The time that you have to wait to get your money (known as the settlement period), is determined by the acquiring bank (in other words, the bank that provides your merchant number). They set the settlement schedule based on a due diligence process under taken on the merchant account application. As policies vary across the different banks, it pays to shop around to find a solution that gives you access to your money in a timely manner.

Alternatively, you can opt for a Complete Solution (Internet Merchant Account + Payment Gateway) from a PSP (Payment Service Provider). Ideally, if you opt for one that partners with a range of different banks, you will be given options as to which bank will provide the balance you need between speed of settlement and attractive commercials. Often, faster settlement comes at the cost of a fixed reserve, so it’s about finding a balance that works for your business.

Hope this is useful...
