If all you need from the product is a mail merge then this post is a +1 for LibreOffice.
I used to use OpenOffice which is what Libre is born from and did for several years until compatibility became an issue with working with staff. When I started recruiting I needed to use something that my staff would quickly and easily adopt, and the issue of staff adoption of tech was something I didn't want to consider or bother with. So the easy option was to then move to MS Office, but I wouldn't recommend buying MS Office just for doing mail merges.

Hi, I need Word & Excel for Mail Merge and for my accounts etc. What's the best way of purchasing it? I'm not really a fan of subscriptions but not sure if it's better to get the updates etc.

    Thanks
I am not a fan of subscriptions either.

If you can get away with LibreOffice and the like, I too would recommend that.

Those products don't realy work for me given my prior experience with Office. If it's the same for you, I would recommend you look for used Office licenses on Amazon or other websites. You can find very reasonable prices that way.

If all you are using your Office software for is mail merges and lightweight stuff, then LibreOffice is the way forward. From memory, the updates are fairly frequent and there are no security issues to worry about.

The only reason to get MS Office is if you were already familiar with it and you didn't want to learn a new package.

Hi, thanks to everyone for getting back to me so quickly and apologies for my delayed reply, been a manic few days. I downloaded LibreOffice and it looks good, but unfortunately, I don't have much time so I bought a license for Office 2021, which meant I didn't have to take up time to familiarise myself. Will be using LibreOffice for all other PCs for general word processing!

Many thanks for all your help & have a great weekend!

I've not purchased from them, but I understand this is a legitimate reseller of heavily discounted MS Office licenses:

    https://ecokeys.co.uk/microsoft-office/

I bought Office 2021 from this reseller at the weekend. It took less than 30 minutes to buy, download and install it. The pro version with Access etc was GBP18.99.

No affilation to this company or any other reseller, but happy to recommend from the viewpoint of a satisfied customer and I'll buy licenses for my other computers from them.
