Best Business Bank Account?

Shopping around it looks like Santander offer the best business bank account for a small business with a relative turnover...

Just wondering who you guys use and why? :)

Just left Lloyds with two accounts as they were a joke (I bank with them on a personal level as well mind)...looked around. Santander did appeal, but my accountant said she would get someone to call from HSBC. No call for a few hours, so I called NatWest. I said whoever calls back first get's my accounts, that's the way I work. It was NatWest, and I am glad I chose them. I got 2 years free banking as well

Have a look at them. And if you sign up on line (which I didn't!!!) you get a £75 Google Adword's voucher!

Hi I read loads of stories of bad customer service with Lloyds. I v got an account with them but vnt had any issues could be cos I use 100% online banking. Had 18mths free banking

My second account is HSBC which is the oldest I m completely sold with HSBC especially their online banking facilities. Since all my transactions are online I get this facility free. Charges apply to paying deposits in bank, cheque payment etc

I hope this helps.

Been with Alliance and Leicester / Santander now for nearly a year.
"Free Banking" but have had a few problems. Like the batch of cheques that went on holiday for 2 weeks having deposited them via the PO. Or the direct debits that didn't get set up correctly. Cheque clearance times are longer than my old account with Bank of Scotland. e.g. paid in a batch of cheques last Tuesday but it is today (Tuesday) before they appear as "cleared" online. = 7 days !

There are few people on here that will put all this down to "hicups" in the system but if you were to reverse the problems you would be getting hit with penalty charges right left and centre !

Presently looking at RBS Direct business account.... might be out of the frying pan and into the fire !

I'm with lloyds and i'm not impressed with them. I've got a business branch about a mile away from me which was one of the reasons i joined, i thougth brilliant if i have any problems i can go in and speak face to face with someone. Wrong! You can only do that if your turnover is £500,000 or more. So i have to speak to someone over the phone miles away. Plus they said it was free banking but i keep getting charged for certain things. Didn't read the small print. I am also looking to move from Lloyds just don't know where to go.

I have just finished by 2 year free banking period with Natwest. I had a look at the charges that were about to become applicable and did a little wee!! They were going to charge 66p for every £100 paid in. But I have agreed a capped rate of £55 per month with my manager which I am much happier about. She wanted to cap the fee at £169, which I wasn't so happy about.

Of course I would like to still have free banking, however, I have never had a problem with Natwest and I am receiving a service after all.

We moved to Santander a couple of years ago. Opted for no fees over personal service and it was a long, drawn out process to open the account.

However there is no one shining bank out there and Santander have been OK for a while so we're part way through opening another account with them. So far so good although I will re-post if things change.

I moved from (Abbey) Santander to Lloyds in November. Although Santander was free, it was a right pain in the backside having to pay cheques and cash through the deposit facility in their cashpoints only at the branches and not being able to do anything over the counter. They also wouldn't give an overdraft and were unhelpful on the phone when ever I needed to speak to someone.

11 months on with Lloyds, the charges I feel are reasonable for cashing cheques, I have a good Relationship Manager who deals with everything that I have queries on and they have given an overdraft facility. So much easier. It seems to vary so much between branches.

I'm with Barclays. They treat me and my buisness like royalty.

I have 8.9 million in the bank and but they keep reassuring me that it's nothing to do with that:rolleyes:

See that's Lloyds TSB's loss as I am banking 9 million with NatWest....only kidding lol. Yeah Barclays will adore you! They will pay you some nice interest - but how much are they making of you!

Another comment which someone touched on was over the phone adviser with Lloyds if less than £500K a year and no in branch help. That's crap as it's almost the little companies that pays the banks if you understand what I mean.

And another comment - I had a delightful time setting up my new accounts, my manager has been fantastic

I was with HSBC but they were hopeless so I moved my business and personal accounts to Santander. They give me free business banking for life, I pay in and withdraw from an ATM 24/7, I can phone them for anything else. Thats all I need and I'm happy with the service.
