Best Bulletin boards / forums

Can anyone recommend a good bulletin board / forum to go on our Win 2003 server to be associated with one of our websites. It has to be accessible in accordance with W3C.

try http://www.phpbb.com/ if I remember rightly, it can be a bit of a pain getting php to work right on IIS (assuming you are using iis, you dont say otherwise) but once setup it works a treat.

I have installed and used Web Wiz Forums, basically because it was one of the few Windows forums available at the time. Um, it might be worth you checking it out!

It was a pain to get working, but did work well in the end, that was some time ago, I'm sure there are many good ones about, like most things, its a matter of trying a few out and seeing what works best for you.

Accessify Forums use phpBB at http://www.accessifyforum.com so it must be accessible..?

As I said before, I have used it in the past and although a paun to get working (this may have been down to not enough knowledge on my part, or bad coding or a combination) I offered phbb as an example, I'm sure there are better and worse ones available.

I've had no problem installing phpBB on Windows 2003/IIS/MSSQL - done it a number of times.

My holiday forum (sorry about the Christmas theme but my members love it!) is in PHPBB, and its very simple to install.

Whilst it doesn't pass any awards for clean, tidy code, it does the job, and personally I think it's easy to access and use.

I developed some forums for a client for a few months ago, but new features are being added, so I know it fails the WC3 standards, but it wouldn't take long to alter.

Only thing I keep meaning to sort out is the use of that table at the top.

I think the problem with phpbb is the number of security risks in the code. We had a quick look at it but went with vBulletin as its considered to be a much better product and a lot more features.

Check out Invision, have used their script for a few of my clients and it has worked marvelously ! Their customer service is extremely efficient and for aprox 60$ a year you get 247 phone support !!

Invision Board is what you want, but yeah, vBulletin are considered the best available, but they're not free.

If you want a Windows Solution I would recommend
InstantForum.net

It would probably need a bit of work to meet your accessibility requirements but the source code is available. We have a couple of modified installations running on our Windows 2003 Server.

PHPBB has some coding issues as pointed out earlier but from experience of installing it for clients it has a few major advantages for some one new to scripts

1) As long as your server is set up correctly and you have the relevant information it is dead easy to set up

2) The configuration is normally self explanatory

3) There is a whole community of people to help out with any problems

4) A lot of other scripts such as galleries integrates with PHPBB seamlessly
