Hi all,

I am starting an IT Company and have been looking to offer cloud solutions to my customers.

I have looked around and seen a lot of company's offering reseller partnerships.

Has any one become a reseller and found it a good source of revenue? Are the reseller program's being offered by these company's worth the time and investment?

You're a little bit vague, IT is a huge market and as you will know "cloud" doesn't really have a meaningful definition.

To be very successful and build a viable business, you really need to be adding some sort of value when reselling others digital goods. Typically either offering advice or support in excess of the wholesaler you are reselling, or adding your own intellectual property on top of the wholesalers offering to create something new/different/better, or bundling many different offerings into some sort of value suite.

Totally agree with @PipeTen-Carl You will find it tough going just reselling the same service at a higher price unless you add some value. You need to ask yourself why would someone buy from me when they can get the same thing from any number of other companies also reselling the same service.

"Value-Added Resellers" (VARs) used to work well with non-cloud software. They could sell hardware and installation services (the added value). There's no need for that with Cloud products - so the same model doesn't work.

From my experience as a cloud vendor working with numerous resellers - it really only worked well when the reseller already had a large established customer base to sell the product in to. (or could add value as an accountant - but that's a bit different)
