Are My Delivery Charges Fair?

I was all set to offer FREE Shipping.. on our ecommerce store?

However soon realised our lower price products ended up being overpriced products once some kind of cost was included to the overall price to cover shipping?

I felt the only way forward was to set a product cost and then a shipping charge.

Not wanting to lose customers, do you think these rates are fair?

STANDARD DELIVERY £5 Dispatched & Delivered within 3-5 working days

EXPRESS DELIVERY £10 Dispatched & Delivered within 1-2 working days

FREE DELIVERY ON ALL ORDERS OVER £50 Dispatched & Delivered within 3-5 working days

Please note we currently only deliver to UK Mainland

All depends on how the customer sees the deal. Our products are from 50kg to 300kg or more and we include U.K. mainland shipping in the price. Customers seem to think is a great deal but I often think that adding a standard £14.99 delivery charge won’t hurt sales but put more money in my pocket.

We have no idea what your products are or the price point you operate at.

If your products are in the £5- £10 range then £5 or £10 for delivery may put people off

Having no option to upgrade the delivery of the "get free delivery" offering above £50 so that it is quicker may also put people off.

However I have recently purchases something which where I paid extra for a 1-2 day delivery and it transpired what the company offered was a 1-2 day despatch instead of 3-5. This actually hade very little difference as the product was being shipped from China with a up to 4 week transit time so actually made little difference to actual delivery time.

The rates are very fair, but as Jeremy alluded to, expect charges to rise shortly.

I wouldn’t bother worrying about the price point you operate at, things cost what they cost to deliver, you need to cover the costs. We now live in times where people regularly pay £4-10 just to have a £10 takeaway delivered, so forget about your product, price the delivery correctly.

As a general statement, those charges don't seem unreasonable but that does depend on what we are talking about. A £5 delivery for a birthday card for example may be a bit steep, but £10 delivery for a new conservatory seems too cheap I'd be worried how it would be delivered :)

Depending on your website, how about use a plugin that sets the delivery charge automatically based on destination, combined with the size and weight of the product. There are lots of WooCommerce addons that do this automatically, whatever site you have I'm sure could do the same.
Paying for delivery never puts me off buying as an online shopper and as you point out it does allow you to price your products separately and competitively.

Think the conservatory would be over £50 though so would be free delivery!

Some people do offer free delivery on big items but they already absorb it in the costs

Which is the point most people forget. It’s never free delivery, you are just paying for it within the cost of the product.

Currently, we discount the shipping so it costs us more than we charge and we offer free shipping on orders over £30 on our vape liquid site.

I prefer, like ebay and amazon, to see a straight up price. I can do the comparisons myself.
That makes no sense because different items have different delivery costs on Ebay and Amazon?
