Anyone Seeing Penguin 2.0 Today?

So,

a few threads are popping up over certain web forums over yesterday and today claiming Penguin 2.0 has begun and peoples rankings are seeing big differences.

Just wondering if anyone here has noticed over past 24 hours any significant changes in clients rankings or your own websites.

* This apparently will also help some sites that have been hit with original penguin update

*Ranking movements reported are not specifically negative, they seem evenly split, if not slightly more on the positive ranking movement side of things

Yep, somethings going on. Google is listing my web pages in different order, e.g. if you type in the company name instead of getting the website homepage you now get the contact page or one of the pages further down the tree, the homepage is down around 5th or 6th place on several websites. Wasn't like this a few weeks ago.

not seeing anything different here

although I have just looked at a source that many others probably have as well and it does mention 'over the past week'

now what interest people is over the last week I have seen a site in my sector start to show signs of coming back after taking a right spanking in the original penguin

Funny this should come up, yesterday a saw referrals from Google well up on one of my sites. Thats seems to have continued this morning but this week I had been tweaking the SEO. Perhaps I'm patting myself on the back too soon if it's arctic related then.

Then again could just mean more people surfing.

Noticed this as well but decided to do some tests for the next google update to see if all the rumors about penguin were true and so far Ive noticed a few things. (If you are an SEO guy this information should help you.)

1.) Authority is beating relevancy. I have noticed that during my tests that links from authority sites even 1 of them is beating links from other more relevant sites for example 5 PR 3 backlinks that are relevant are now not the same link juice as 2 PR4 ones.

2.) Be careful with anchor text! - I decided to use only my url and 1 primary keyword to rank one of my websites. I knew this was risky but wanted to test to see if when the next updates come that the rumors that google hates anchor text links that aren't varied is true and my site dropped from #2 to #9.....So I can confirm that is true.

Haven't noticed many more differences yet but will update you when I do.

I've heard a lot of hooting about this. However it doesn't add up to me. Sites tanked up on crud are often being replaced with the latest crud slingers. As I see it Google could just be randomly sloshing things about (particularly for certain terms) OR they are shooting sites down manually.

I think Google won't be happy till all on and off page SEO is stopped, given up in sure desperation and all web pages other then major sites look like Google affiliate sites with Google code making up 25% of each page.

Google really only have two objectives with your sites - either you are paying them via Google Ads or you are being paid by them driving traffic to those ads.

It's a COMPLY or DIE

Surely if it was that bad, users would be leaving them in droves. That does not seem to be the case though. Google appears to be able to do absolutely anything it wants to do and the user base just keeps tagging along quite happy.

Bing for instance seems to be offering better search results at the moment but search engine users couldn't care less. They just make do with what google throws at them.

Do they even know what Bing is? Google is in the dictionary, it is as common as a loaf of bread. Bing however, well, unless your mildly techy then you won't have a clue what it is or what it does.

Most of my websites have gone back to showing the correct order of pages now in search results, they were upside down the other day e.g. displaying search results from pages well within the website but not showing anything about the home page, thats changed now, back to being homepage in the top position for the domain name.

My mum uses Google. She doesn't care about authority sites or SEO or anything. All she knows is that if she types something in the search box she will get a list of sites.

Website owners seem to forget that they are not your target Google user. The person Google is targeting is my mum. Your site doesn't matter. It has never mattered to Google.

Try this

Change the number of results on a page. If there are 10 sites on the page each one gets a single listing. If you change to 100 results per page the top sites get 2 or 3 listings each.

Set it to 100 and search for: Top SEO or Top SEO Services

Last time I tried it, I got 20+ at the top for that lovely directory where you buy your rankings. Who says you don't get what you pay for :p
